Lightest sunshirts?

I’m kinda over my Bette & Court sunshirts, which I bought almost 7 years ago. I’m kinda finding their material a bit heavy, especially when it’s crazy hot and humid here. What I do like about them is that they don’t have a cuff at the wrist. I have a couple of Kastels, and I find the wrist cuff on those almost uncomfortably tight.

With those pieces of information, what is everyone finding are the lightest, coolest, not sell-my-kidney expensive sunshirts? Now I just need to figure out how to unload the 10 Bette & Court ones I have so I can afford some new ones!

Kastel and Tailored sportsman, no question. I also LOVE the sleeveless coolblast ones from Dover. I would try used tack Facebook groups. I see them on there all the time and have to hold myself back.

Oh man, I just got a sleeveless Tailored Sportsman Ice Fil…and it is the BOMB. You can get them for $59 with free shipping from SmartPak. This thing is literally feather-light.

I’m partial to my It’s a Haggerty’s shirts. They’re made here in the USA! Which I love. They come in some awesome designs and even customized. They’re around $50!

although I do not find my Kastel’s to have tight wrists and the it’s a haggertys are def tighter…so there’s that. Maybe buy one used (I love The Tried Equestrian) and sample that way? I find the material to be significantly cooler than the Kastel shirts.

I think the Kerrits Ice Fil are the lightest ones I’ve found, and a lot of places have bargain closeout prices on the ones from prior seasons, so you tend to be able to find them at great prices if you find it in your size.

I am a big fan of the Kerrits and Ariat sun shirts. The only problem I have with the Kerrits shirts they mostly come in wacky prints, but I like the fabric so much I can live with it.

I actually think my Dublins are the lightest.

Kerrits. And I like the wacky prints.

The fabric in the It’s a Haggertys we got in barn colors are probably the heaviest of my sunshirts.

Tailoreds for the $$.
callidae for the quality.

I love my Tailored Sportsmans and Kerrits! I have found that they have kept me the coolest.

I have the Haggerty’s, the Kastels, RJs, and TS. I like all of them, but I think the TS are the lightest, then RJ, then Kastel, then Haggerty’s.

I have Ariat Tek, Tailored Sportsman, IBKUL, Horze, a Dover Saddlery one, Tredstep and hands down my favorite is SanSoleil. It is super lightweight, dries faster than any of my other sunshirts, no cuff on the sleeve. The only downside is they are a bit pricey unless you can find a discount on closeout colors.

I have one of the Piper long sleeve sunshirts that I got on sale. Seriously the most lightweight shirt I’ve ever worn!! Almost feels like wearing nothing lol. They’re also on the cheaper side

I like the Ariat Tek sunshirts the best and have quite a few of them. Here are the others that I have one each of:
Horze - I like it quite a lot.
Riding Sport - decent and great price
Kastel - cool enough, but the fit is awkward
Noble Outfitters - probably the hottest shirt I have. Would never buy another one.

My IBKUL shirts are hands-down my favorites. I have a similar problem as the OP, I find the wrist cuffs on the Kastels uncomfortably tight and I have really small wrists! That being said, I don’t have any TS or Kerrits. I found the SmartPak shirts to have a bit denser fabric.

I love most things SmartPak, but I agree, my sunshirt is a heavier weight. I can’t wear them in the summertime. Those are my spring/fall riding shirts.

Piper from Smartpak is paper thin, the sleeves seem to run a little big tho…

I am generally opposed (& unable) to pay the 300% markup for horse-marketed items, so I buy technical shirts from outdoor/fitness places on clearance (like Sierra Trading Post or others). Exact same product made for runners or hikers is a fraction of the cost & I usually like the material better (it’s lighter) – the horse stuff often seems like it was designed by someone who lives in Vermont or England & doesn’t understand what southern heat/humidity entails…

I love the TS shirts and recently discovered they come in short sleeves. Those are now my new favorite for the 80-90 degree days we’ve been having lately

I 100% agree. I really like button down UPF hiking shirts. Columbia’s are the lightest I’ve tried. They have vents, a nice collar, quick to dry, normal colors. You can roll up the sleeves or leave them down. They are more flattering than a flimsy sun shirt too. Orvis makes some nice ones in a checkered pattern too.
