Lightest Weight Fly Sheet

I’m going to need to get a new fly sheet soon, as pony* ripped a gigantic hole in his. I currently have a Rambo Fly Buster, but 10 minutes after I put it on him, he is soaking wet. He’s a big sweater anyway, but I’m hoping to find something that will keep him a bit cooler. Any thoughts? He just wears it at night, but with the heat and humidity we have here, it doesn’t cool off much.
*pony is actually a 16hh WB, so we need horse size (:

I find the really light, soft sheets cling to the horse and make them hotter than the heavier, stiffer fly mask mesh type. Those seem to allow better airflow. But any sheet will make the horse hotter than no sheet.

Rambo has a stiffer, fly mask mesh type -the Protector? I ought to know as I purchased one llast fall. Though I haven’t needed to use it this year.

The Smartpak sheets seem very light. I have had one (the not fancy one) the last 2 years and it did not seem to make them too hot.

Thanks for the replies! Please keep suggestions coming! I don’t care if it is softer and lighter or stiffer, just whatever will keep him cooler than his current one (: I agree that no fly sheet will definitely keep him cooler, but with the horseflies we have at the beginning of the summer, leaving him naked results in bringing in a bloody horse :frowning:

The Saratoga is really light. Has a wider weave to keep the horses cooler. I’m in really humid NC and that’s the best one for the heat that we’ve found. The smartpak ones are good too, but are a little bit warmer because the weave is so tight.

I have about 5 different ones and agree - the stiffer ones work MUCH better on hot days at keeping the horse cool. In fact, I rotate my two stiff mesh sheets in summer and use the softer ones in spring and fall only.

I have this one and really like it: http://www.sstack.com/horse-blankets-and-sheets_fly-sheets-sun-protection_mosquito-mesh-fly-sheets/

It’s really well made and you can’t beat the price.
