Little dog's teeth falling out!

It’s always something!! This is my first little dog and it’s definitely a first for me… I was collecting the blanket out of her kennel for a wash last night and found a tooth! She’s three years old so definitely not a puppy tooth. I checked her mouth and it appears that she has lost two at some point.

Obviously I’m calling the vet today. It’s so odd though, to my eye her mouth looks so bright pink and healthy. No swelling or crazy tartar buildup.

I called my mom and she said her miniature Schnauzer is missing multiple tooth too. She said she’s taken him to the vet about it multiple times and her vet is not worried about it since he doesn’t show any other signs of gum disease. She said her vet said that sometimes it just happens… That maybe when he’s older things will change but nothing to do now.

Nothing was noted about her teeth at her checkup last year either.

I really hope she’s okay! She’s eating and acting normal. She’s the sweetest little dog. Has anyone had experience with this?

Yeah, littles are prone to overcrowding issues and tend to need more dental attention. It’s smart that you’re getting an exam.

If your dog is a nut like my youngest Peke, they could be knocking them out by doing stupid things like hurling themselves off the backs of couches, running headfirst into chair legs while having the zoomies, and other ill-advised activities. Ask me how I know…

For several months after I adopted him it seemed like Hudson was missing a new little front tooth every time I saw him.

Yeah I knew little dogs had more issues but this really surprised to see this now! Hopefully it’s nothing terrible going on. She was due for her regular check up anyways so I guess the timing’s right.

Lol she can be a little nutty sometimes. She’s a mini Schnauzer and Jack Russell lol. So she definitely has her moments.

The title of your thread made me cry! Hit me sideways I guess. Jingles for the LIttle Dog and her teef.

It definitely was so shocking to me!! I really hope it’s nothing serious. She is such a precious little thing.

My friend’s mini schnoodle had teeth problems throughout and finally lost all her teeth. She is 14 now and totally deaf too, and still chugging along.

She tends to be nasty with other dogs, so the fact that she has no more teeth is a bonus  when I visit with my own little dog

Is yours a mini Schnauzer?

She is part mini Schnauzer, yes. I wonder if they are prone to it … That said she’s only 4 years old!

We have a vet appointment Friday. Finger crossed for her.

So they said she had some tartar on her canines (looks minimal to me but I’m not a vet) and of course recommend a $1100 cleaning. We didn’t do it today but looks like my pocket book will be drained in the near future between my horse , dog and our little cockatiel. They sure like to spend my money, these animals.

What did the vet say about her losing teeth?

She just said losing tooth isn’t normal and to get the dental cleaning which will include x-rays and blood work to further investigate.

That seems high… but I guess it depends on where you are. I had seven teeth pulled along with xrays and a dental on my older 8 pound Chi x. It was $750.

It seemed a little high to me too. Debating on getting another quote or just sucking it up. We’ve been happy with these vets for the last few years.
