"Live Stream Links" Thread, etc.

I will say that there have been some hiccups with the NBC Live App - I have lost my streaming several times, but was able to get it on the computer at NBColympics.com

And as for the network coverage I watched over 2 hours of cross country that I had taped ( I actually ended up deleting a lot of it bc I had seen it live) but it’s not on the regular NBC channel - it’s on one of the obscure stations. My Direct TV allows me to press the red button while the Olympics are on and I can search by sport then record that way. It’s really a neat feature and I can’t complain about any of the coverage. I think this is the most I have seen since I worked the Olympics in '96.

…and if you go to cnet.com and type in ‘expat shield’ in the really big search bar at the top, the download page is the very first result. And it is FREE.

I have been watching the BBC coverage with expat shield with no problems and it is 100% because of the GREAT information provided by helpful COTHers.

The only problem I have been having is that I keep forgetting to turn expat shield off when I leave the BBC sit and I keep getting sent to google.co.uk instead of google.com.
OK, I did it again just now. I typed ‘expat shield’ in the REALLY BIG search bar at the top and got the download page as the very first result. And I quote from that download page:

Safe, Secure and Private Internet for GBP5.00 per month

GBP5.00 per month is NOT FREE.

Any other suggestions?

What part of this post did you not comprehend?..

It is free.
The first two results in a simple google search on “ExPat Shield” will give you the website of the software itself (which has a download button on the first page) and also a link to CNET, where it can also be downloaded.

Seriously?
The first two results in a simple google search give you two immediate links that download for free.

I do not have satellite or cable, but would gladly pay NBC to view online. Since that is not possible, I downloaded expat shield without any trouble and spent some wonderful hours watching on BBC.

What part of MY post did YOU not comprehend? The first two results
I got in my simple Google search were 1) a link to the site I just posted about, where the Expat Shield is GBP5 a month; and 2) a site that is blocked by Smoothwall. The third link just takes me to the same GBP5/month site.

Every Expat Shield search I have done takes me either to the Smoothwall “block” page or to the GBP5/month page.
Post a link here to a free Ex-Pat Shield web site. Because the one I found has a monthly fee. Monthly FEE, not FREE.

And I have a simple direction for Equibrit but can’t post it on a public BB.

Add me to the list of those who shut off cable (because it wasn’t worth the money they charge when I get more satisfaction from Netflix and my Roku or AppleTV for almost pennies each month). I DO pay for internet and phone through the canle company, and have cable while I’m TDY, but not NBCSN (and I’m working in a class B vault, so no phone, no TV access, no updates)…so I downloaded the NBC Olympics app to my iPhone. Yeah, it’s just taking up memory as it’s worthless. It won’t even let me pay for their temporary subscription so I can watch anything. I get home this weekend, so I’ll try from my laptop then, but this is ridiculous.

Seriously, I would have been more than happy to pay a fair amount for the app to be able to watch…in the meantime, I will have to make do with Twitter updates and Facebook pictures.

This is where I downloaded expat shield. 100% free!!

ditto.

Yup, expatshield.com made me a happy user of the BBC and able to watch the Olympics.

If I had cable or satellite, I’d gladly pony up a bit more to watch live streaming. I don’t have those (no cable access and satellite is for our computer, no $$ to do TV too). So…I used my incredibly limited abilities on the computer (I can turn it on, navigate a bit, copy/paste…that’s about it!) and Equibrit’s simple instructions and Bob’s your uncle! I’m on!

I’m sorry you can’t seem to figure it out Wellspotted. Do you have a teen neighbor or relative who could come over and try to figure it out for you? That always seems to work for me when I’m stuck!

I got on the NBC live feed without much trouble, and thought the coverage of x-country was great. Does anyone know who the commentator was? (Male, British)
Michael Tucker (according to Eventing threads). He was terrific, wasn’t he ?

Hmm. I got ExPat Shield, but I downloaded it for the modest fee from CNET. It’s not a BIG fee… £5…? I didn’t know about a free link before, and I didn’t see the links thread. : (

Maybe the Mods could sticky it for those still at square one?

Me, too, thanks to this thread! Sorry I missed the Eventing, but I’ve got all the dressage and showjumping to go!

Thank You, FalseImpression

Thank you for posting the link. Seriously. Thanks.

I went to the site and this is what it said to me:

Smoothwall

This content has been blocked because it does not comply with the acceptable usage policy.
The request was logged.

So apparently that is the problem. For some reason my computer is being blocked while other computers are not.

That is the first sane and sensible response I have gotten out of all of this. It is something unique to my computer/server/network/search engine/whatever.

Hey, it sucks, but at least it makes sense.

That’s really weird, I just googled it for the first time and the first three results rather prominently mention it is “free”…

I actually haven’t been able to find anywhere that it’s listed with a price… weird.

It’s not me, Calvincrowe. It’s something about my computer/server/whatever. See my reply to FalseImpression just above this one. (Thanks, though.:))

This is weird. You are not on a Mac, correct? I have given the link to so many people and posted it on my FB and everyone has been able to download. I really wonder what you have on your computer that would prevent the download… I would be frustrated too (just like I was when I could not view the Colbert episode even though I had the Cdn link. It finally worked after telling me that the video was not available… Go figure!)

I would keep trying tweaking firewalls or other security stuff on your computer. Or your server? Good luck.

It’s a Mac. And I know that years ago Mac users could not access Internet sites and apps that PC people could, but I thought I had heard that all that had changed.

This is not a new Mac, either.

But heck–it was a free gift from a friend who got a new Mac, and I am very glad to have it because I can now do job searches and apps, access COTH and e-mail and the little FB I bother with, type my own personal things, and do other web stuff that I couldn’t go before. And for all I know the Smoothwall block is something to do with the wyfi service where I live right now.

But again, at least I have wyfi. I didn’t have any Internet access at all at home.

I just hate the frustration of being told I can do something that I know I can’t do because I have already tried it, and then hearing other people talk about all that they can do, that they think I could do if only I weren’t incompetent, when actually I am quite competent about most things …

Arrrggghhhh … you get the picture. Anyway, thanks again for not only walking me through it but giving me the virtual door to walk through.

Now to go tweak something on this machine …

Hi,

I have a Mac in addition to my work laptop. I did a quick search and found this specifically for Mac.

Haven’t tried it. Don’t know if it is free or not, but it’s worth a try.

If you Google Expat Shield for Mac, there are some options for VPN (not all free).

Give it a go. The BBC eventing links still work. I just finished the show jumping rounds last night.

Good luck!

Well that explains it then. Many people have said that it did not work with macs, but there is a thread about how to bypass the IP address and log in to bbc but again you need cable… http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363028

good luck
