"Live Stream Links" Thread, etc.

Hi Again,

Okay, I tried all of the free downloads for Mac that I could find. If you have a pre-Intel Mac (like an old PowerBook G4), none of them will work.

So I tried them on my newer MacBook Air. I got the Hotspot Shield to download and I was able to access the BBC site for the news and standings, but I could not get the live feed to work.

So then I tried a more advanced way, a free trial subscription to UKproxyTV (only available for use with Safari for Mac). It requires updating the VPN proxy settings in the preferences.

It was easy to enter the settings, the account access codes were emailed instantly, BUT both Safari and Firefox locked up and would not access the BBC website.

So I removed all of the settings and uninstalled all the stuff and my Mac is back to normal.

Now there are several subscription sites like Simplyexpats.net that have step by step proxy setup for Mac but since my work laptop is PC, I am not going to experiment with the paid sites. Most have a very nominal monthly subscription fee that can be cancelled at anytime (like under $10).

So there you go. Google UK Proxy for Mac. Look for the ones with a free trial. You have to have a little extra computer knowledge but if you can read their directions, you should be able to do it. I’m sure if I had really wanted to get it to work, I would have figured it out. I just didn’t want to take any more time to play with it.

I hope this helps the Mac users out there. I love my Mac too, but I am glad that my work laptop is a PC so if one doesn’t work, I have another option.

I understand frustration of those not too familiar with downloading applications. However, I went to cnet and easily found the free version of Expat Shield. I downloaded it. I then downloaded firefox. When firefox was downloaded and installed, opened it, and then clicked on Expat Shield to activate it (it comes up on new firefox tab.) Googled to the BBC site and tried to view video. It prompted me to download the latest version of Flash, which I did. I am now able to watch BBC video, which is slightly lower def than NBC, but has the huge advantage of not skipping and buffering, plus there is commentary. Well worth the 45 minutes or so of downloading.
