Lizard in the office Keep or evict?

I didn’t invite the lizard in but since I also have a slight ant invasion(didn’t think it was enough to start an ant based ecosystem though) I am almost tempted to just leave the lizard alone to do his thing.

I know where he lives now so I can pick his home platform up and move him if the argument goes that way.
I think he is drinking from the overflow dish of the plant. Once the ant problem goes away and the weather cools off his scaly butt is out of here but for now should I or should I not let him stay?

If he’s finding things to eat, leave him alone. If it starts looking skinny, put it outside.

I read a newspaper article once about New Yorkers who had cockroaches in their apartments but didn’t want to use pesticides, so they bought some geckos. The geckos did such a good job eating all the cockroaches that a couple of them starved to death.

Let him stay I say! I had a skink in the house for a while, but I doubt he fared well with two cats.

Paula (who’s from the Caribbean)

Lizards don’t skeeve me out, so I’d let him stay. If it was a tarantula it would be out on it’s ear as soon as I stopped screaming.

Alright. So he is oficially a temp, (room temp- cold blooded you know) but if he starts looking peaked he is out on his tail.
He/she is a tiny alligator lizard if it helps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Alligator_Lizard#External_links

I’ve spent a lot of time in the tropics, and people there don’t even try to get rid of them. The common house geckos have these really cute little chirps that I actually kind of miss. They’ll eat up your ants for sure! He probably already knows a way out, since he got in. And in any case if he’s anything like the common house geckos…good freakin luck catching him, those suckers are FAST!

Aww he/she’s cute!

Over in Mauritius , we had quite a few in the house. Brown ones to bright green ones with blue or red on them. Fascinating to watch specailly jumping while on the ceiling.

P.

We have alligator lizards in our area - those guys get pretty big! I’d be letting him hang around the office for a while, myself, even so. I like lizards.

I’d LOVE to have a resident lizard on pest patrol!!

Unfortunately, the few Skinks that do manage to get into the house fall prey to the cats in short order.

hey, do you think they would eat stink bugs?

Exactly what I was thinking. It’s like a bad Grade B horror flick in the house these days.

Send some to me, we don’t have lizards here!

If it gets rid of ants, I’d import more.

We don’t have lizards in my area but I am going to liken this to my philosophy on spiders in people’s houses: if they are there, they must be eating something, so I leave them alone and let them do their job cause they are probably eating something you like a lot less.

Plus, the lizard is cute.

I generally have the same attitude towards spiders (DH does not). But I once had a wolf spider trying to set up housekeeping in a bad (for the humans) spot - above the kitchen sink. I figured I’d relocate him so I wouldn’t keep bothering his web AND so that DH wouldn’t see him, scream like a little girl, and pulverize him.

The thing SPIT AT ME when I tried to move him! Stomp. I don’t care how many legs it has, anything that spits at me will pay for it.

Ugh. I know, know, KNOW that spiders are good, but have been a confirmed Arachnophobic since the day I was born - lol!

I’m logical & intelligent enough to leave them alone outdoors, but sorry - inside the house they’re fair game. And human-threatening-poisonous types that we have around here - Brown Recluse, Black Widow, Brown Widows - get smushed immediately on discovery - indoors or out.

Oh yeah, if I saw a poisonous one inside I’d probably have to reconsider my position a bit but fortunately I’ve never been in that situation. I have pet hermit crabs, which is like the spider’s fourth cousin or something, so they don’t bother me.

We see little albino ones from time to time here in the house. My husband tries to kill them, the cats eat them, I leave them alone. Whatever has brought them inside for feeding is nothing I want around!

Let them eat. XD

Y’all are in equilibrium right now. Why disrupt that?

I hope that if you do evict him, you will respect that he is entitled to the “lifestyle to which he has become accustomed.” Figure out where to put him so that he can stay warm enough and have a supply of ants or whatever.
