No, it’s not part of the question. It’s meant to force the riders to go out and around and take a different line but a few riders have opted to crash through it (or over it) to get a straighter line in.

Showing 28.8 time for ML and Scandalous, but the commentators were discussing they seemed to have started late, so the time might not be accurate. However, I think they’ll have a 15 too.
ETA: Time was confirmed as 28.8 penalties. That’s dropped them wayyyy down.

So we have to find out the story on ML’s “late start” - exactly what? Did she take a late warm-up round and miss her start time - again ??? Will have to wait for details …
If she was late to her ride time, could be the clock started on time. That would explain Frankie’s remark that ML’s watch time is not the same as the official time.

And if ML was late to start box, that might explain a decision to save the horse rather than ride for time.

Did the commentators just say again that it was 1 min 11 sec over the time for ML? And that flag is still a question mark? Kitty looked to be really flagging around 2/3rds through.
Emilee Libby just rode that water so conservatively and accurately, like a little Maclay test.
