I thought I saw one who completed. Could have imagined it lol
I know there is at least 1 who completed the 4S and is doing the 4L this weekend. I havenāt looked close enough to see if there are any that completed the 5L entered this weekend.
This is what I saw in the 4 star L at Jersey from the 5 star at KY (I included where they ended their KY run):
DM & Cecilia: RF @ fence 12
KS & Fernhill Wishes: MR @ fence 17
VVP & Favian: MR @ fence 13
HBA & Jollybo: W before XC
In the 4 star S at Jersey after being in the 5 star at Kentucky:
LH & LCC Barnaby: RF @ fence 7
BM & Long Island T: RF @ fence 12
Who else did I miss from the 5 star, because itās very likely I missed someone!
Now there are LOTS of people from the 4 star at Kentucky entered at Jersey Fresh, both people who completed and people who did not. Much of the field from the 4 star at Kentucky is competing in the 4 star L at Jersey, including 4 of the top 5 finishers.
ETA: the asterisk for stars are making all my text italics, haha.
From the 5 star, CF and FE Stromtrooper RF @ 17
Favian
One as in one rider correct? It was a different horse that ran the prelim HT.
Youāre right, I apparently canāt read because I could have sworn it was the same horse when I looked at the results Saturday
EW and her 2 horses also.
Is that normal practice to run a 4L after running an international only 2 weeks before?
Genuinely curious. I always thought a month off events was the norm for after a completion.
EWās horses were in the 4 star at KY. Not the 5 star. I know you know, just clarifying.
More than 10 combos from the 4 star are back at Jersey, including winner AP, Tami, CL, DP, etc. I donāt know how normal it is but it was certainly the popular decision.
Yes I think I forgot that for some reason I thought one did 5*.
Itās interesting, Iām not judging at all just curious if the opinions on time between events has changed. Is it because of Olympic year or lack of events or just how things are now I wonder?
I donāt know. Iām as curious as you as it seems a bit quick as compared to my usual perception. I donāt say that as a judgement, just an observation.
The course 4* course was described as ādemoralizingā by KC yet heās one of the many with the quick turn around. Maybe that was intentional to rebuild confidence.
Yes, I think itās the whole point. Run a 4*-S as prep (or qualification) for the 4*-L. Especially given the lack of prep competitions due to COVID over the past 12+ months.
If you finish the 4*-S then you count XC as a gallop day in your horseās fitness schedule.
The 4 star L at Jersey Fresh is a designated Olympic Selection Trial for US riders.
Thank you. So not necessarily a normal thing but a prep before a 4L.
@Groom_amp_Taxi that makes sense too! Thanks
Thereās a rule of thumb about how far you get around a long format as to whether you are done for a while or notābased on how many jumping efforts and how long you were on the clock. Something like 2/3 or less, not sure I remember.
As far as the 4S horses competing at Jersey Fresh I donāt think it is a big deal. As difficult as the XC was on the 4S the footing was not punishing, the weather was not hot and (I think) all the horses come back sound for the jog which should tell you good things.
Volunteered at Jersey Fresh on Sat. I was a crossing guard by the water. Weather was great.
Wrong thread, sorry
