LL Amateur eventers, I have a question for you. I know that splitting divisions is up to the organizers, but is anyone else getting weary of competing with 20+ people divisions where there are usually enough to split and still be a decent division?
Personally, I aim for events with more competition. I was at an event where they had the divisions split to like 9 ppl a section and 4 sections. I would rather compete against 40 than 9. Personal preference though.
Does LL = Lower Level?
My riding history is in the hunter world where the classes sometimes had quite a bit more than 20 riders so a division with 20 riders would not be something I found huge or an issue. The whole point (in my world) is to go out and do my best and to meet whatever goals I set for myself that day, even if never getting a ribbon.
To be the best, compete against the best.
20 people is less than half a section in UK eventing.
The rules say (EV104.6.a)
I am perfectly happy with divisions between 20 and 40 horses.
I get annoyed if the only option is an Open division and then they only split that as much as required by the rules. I am less annoyed if they at least offer multiple divisions (Open, Rider, Horse), even if some of those divisions end up being quite large.
I compete because I like getting out and about with my horse. I couldn’t care less about where we place as long as it was fun and I got to enjoy the time spent with my horse. So the number of the people in my class doesn’t matter to me
