LMF Products

Wondering if anybody here feeds LMF and what you think of them… Mostly looking at the super supplement, as it has no iron, which we have way too much of here.

As a brand, LMF is one of the nicer ones.

Their SS supplements (ration balancers) are quite nice, so go for it

I’m a huge fan of LMF grains and have been feeding them to my horses for close to 15 years.

Just recently, though, I’ve had a huge problem getting them (recently as in “continuously for the last 7 months”). The feed store runs out of stock and two of the grains I order (Showtime and TACO) seem to be on backorder more than they’re available. I’ve just started changing over to Haystack to make up for both. Super frustrating as I’ve always loved their grains and my horses have done well on them.

I love LMF feeds. Currently feeding SS along with the Haystack Naturals SB pellets but I have fed Showtime and Gentle Balance before. IMO its pretty cost effective. It also soaks really well, I wet my old mare’s feed down.

LMF is supposed to be one of the better feeds, but I’ve had my mare on it for a couple of years now and I’m just not super impressed with how she looks. I started both her and my gelding on it when the gelding started refusing the HorseTech HighPoint vitami/mineral supplement. I just switched them both to Triple Crown 30%, which picky gelding is actually eating, but it’s too soon to tell how it will work in comparison. It does, however, contain more iron than I would prefer (which is probably why I picked the LMF to start with  ). Horsetech’s HighPoint supplement does not contain iron and could be fed with a small amount of plain hay pellets instead of an RB.

LMF as a brand is high quality. Just like Triple Crown and Seminole and Poulin and many others.

But there will always be horses who do not do well on X feed in Y brand. Despite how good TC Sr is, there are horses who do better on Nutrena Sr.

Quality is about quality and stability of ingredients. But horses are individuals, and respond differently to different formulations.

Appreciate the responses. Currently I feed TC Sr but not “enough” so need to make up the difference with some sort of vitamin supplement. I am using Equis Ultramin and I like it, but I really want to get away from additional added iron, since our soils & water are so heavy in it. In researching I found the LMF Super Supplement, and the HorseTech - which if I went that way would also eliminate my buying their B-complex.

I have to pencil out the math, and run the feeds thru FeedXL, I’ll go from there. @JB, I really appreciate your wealth of knowledge on these things!

Uckele also has a couple of iron-free supps - Equi-VM, and U-Balance Foundation
