Long Island (Nassau County) Boarding

Any recommendations for boarding, preferably near Westbury, Long Island?

Horse does best with private turnout. All adult or mixed adult and junior barn ok. Prefer a barn offering opportunities to show ~2’6" (hunters or jumpers) locally or rated, but without a requirement to show frequently. Access to trails or cross country course a big plus. Must be open weekday evenings. Indoor ring nice to have.

Prefer to spend under $1200 per month for board, related fees, and one lesson or pro ride per week.

Suggestions?

Try longislandequine.com, I don’t know Nassau very well but they have a classified section, and a forum where you can ask the same question and get recommendations. I think your budget may be reached though.

Not Nassau, but western suffolk… I would check out Caumsett. The facility is really the best you can get for the money. Outdoor and indoor rings both have beautiful footing, and there are 1700 acres of state park to ride through. They have a few different pricing options for board, and several different trainers.

Thanks for the suggestions. Please keep them coming. I prefer to ride 7 days a week, so it’s important to me to have a short commute to the barn.

If I’m willing to spend $2K per month for board, related fees, and one lesson per week, would there be other barns I should check out?

Prefer near Westbury, open 7 days per week, and the more turnout the better.

Onsite trainer is not needed, but would want a barn that allows outside trainers if they don’t have a trainer

Check the Red Barn.

Not really near you … but then again not too far… Knoll Farm is a great property with really good facilities… (4 outdoor rings, large indoor, grass turnout, etc.) It is in Suffolk county but not too far east.

Otherwise in Nassau… Caumsett has nice trails (lloyd harbor equestrian center), Hunters Moon on 25a & CW Post (north shore equestrian center).

Knoll Farm is a really quiet, excellent facility for $1000/month. (4 outdoor arenas, large indoor arena, grass turn out)

For under $1200 in Nassau County at a nice show barn will be a little more tough… Red Barn is nice, I believe it is more around $1500? I believe Stanhope in West Hills is within budget. There are a ton of super nice show barns in the area… just more on the higher side for board— CW Post (north shore equestrian center), Hunters Moon…

Maybe try Goldcoast Equestrian… I believe they are under new ownership. Older facilities but nice property & great indoor.

Nassau boarding

There’s New York Equestrian Center: http://www.mynyec.com

or

SUNY Old Westbury has a therapeutic riding facility on their property. It is beautiful and expansive. I’m not sure if they also do regular boarding but their property is really nice.

Best of luck in your search!

Old Westbury is beautiful, under new management. Might want to check that out.
The Red Barn’s property is gorgeous, large ring, well groomed facility. Quieter place. Board there starts around $1400. Gold Coast Equestrian might be another good choice, incredible sized indoor. Again a beautiful property. Also check out Nassau Equestrian Center. The farm is being redone. On a beautiful chunk of property with a new indoor going up (if its not up yet). All these farms are about $1,400 and up for (non full service) board a month, without lessons.

Hunters Moon is over $2,000 a month, I believe.

Old Westbury is the “gold coast” of Long Island, board follows suit with the lavish houses, it is not cheap by any means. A bit more out east will give you a cheaper price in board.

NYEC has limited turnout and the type of barn this is compared to the others myself and other posters have added is very different. Convenient to the city, yes. But not comparable to the property and acreage of Old Westbury.
