Long term Nexium alternatives

We’ve went through the courses of Gastroguard, but Nexium is where we saw the most improvement. However, as soon as we taper, boom, LGS symptoms return. We need a long term solution. He’s happy on 80mg, any less and he gets crotchety.

He’s on a Leaky Gut Syndrome friendly diet to the letter. 24/7 free choice access to low nsc hay & Bluebonnet Equilene ProCare (am & pm). Has anyone kept their show horses on Nexium long term or found success with an alternative?

You are going to get 100 different recommendations. :joy:

I use this supplement at half dose for maintenance. https://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=52001dbe-a5e6-4aca-9327-d2bdd239fe4b

Then I give this if traveling: https://www.resolvet.com/site/products/detail/equine-relyne-gi-travel-tube

It works for my one horse who can be anxious. My other pony is on nothing except when traveling.

If you haven’t watched it yet, someone posted a webinar recently (maybe in Off Course?) with Dr. Ben Sykes, who is one of the top researchers on EGUS. There’s some great information in there.

He also talks about the product he developed, which sounds like what you’re looking for. It’s called Protek GI. There’s also Egusin, which I believe is supposed to be used in a similar situation.

I haven’t tried either, so no personal experience.

Supposed to be really good, but my horse wouldn’t eat it.

Tough when that happens. My horse feels the same way about Vermont Blend (even the pellets).
