Looking for a Custom jumping Crop

I bought a custom jumping crop from Bit of Britain 2 years ago and immediately lost it. Which is a bit sad but I didn’t like it that much anyway. The shaft was to narrow for my taste and the colors didn’t pop. So, I’m finally getting around to getting another one but what I see online doesn’t have much reviews.

This one looks good, but only 5 reviews…also, I don’t know the stiffness of my current crop. I bought mine at Bartville if that helps anyone clue me in.

So, has anyone bought from here or have other suggestions? I’m not looking to spend to much money, not more than $100 for sure!

I don’t need a new bat, but boy, that was fun to look at the website and pick out my favorite custom combinations.

Bummer that you need a new whip but hopefully you’ll find one you like better than the one you lost. I was in a similar boat recently and got some good suggestions - https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/eventing/10378650-whip-shopping-so-sad

I ordered a custom whip from them and LOVE it!! I love all the options. I haven’t had a chance to carry it in over a year, but it’s safely tucked away in my trunk for when I finally get to ride XC again. I prefer a narrow, shorter stick with a thinner handle. I got white and kelly green with a white popper.

ETA - I know the owner of the company and they really stand behind the customer service. If you have any questions at all send them an email.

@Calling Duck - everyone NEEDS a custom bat, dontcha know!

@Saskatoonian - thanks for the link. I must have missed that thread. The Arias look good but pricier. I tried to search for Fowlers crops and ended up at the same fourstar site - is that what the posters are talking about?

@runNjump86 - Thanks for the feedback. I did a search and it looks like the company is based in CA so I won’t be able to ‘touch’ any before ordering. Looking at the website, I’m at a loss on what medium thick, vs med, vs thin mean. I like/am used to the feel of the one I have now…but maybe a thinner handle would be good…ugh…any clues where I can get more info so I order correctly? Also, did you personalize or know anyone that has? If so, how did it look?

side note - I need a new helmet also but they don’t make my style anymore…I have a low profile classic looking velvet hunt cap style…any ideas on a good replacement?

Here’s what I found for Fowlers - that’s probably the route I’d have gone had I not found my old one. Though XCgirl has another kind that she’s raving about… http://www.jockeydepot.com/information1

For hats, ahhhh, so I’m not the only old school type left. Got a CO Fian and absolutely love it. It even has the old drawstring liner so you can adjust it not to touch your ears. Go CO! https://www.charlesowen.com/products/fian/

I have the new 360 GT whip developed by Ramon Dominguez. There’s a fabulous in depth article here:

I LOVE mine and am happy that my horse won’t have the potential for welts or wounds going forward. (Not that I hit that hard but no edges gives a lot of piece of mind)

That looks super cool, but wow. Trying to grow equestrian sports and we can’t even get a decent whip for under $100 now

I’m allowed to pay >$100 for a whip because I still use my old $25 korsteel stirrups! hahaha

I got a ProCush whip and really like it! Tons of custom options and reasonable(ish) priced.

Oooohhhh Ajierene, I wish you hadn’t posted that, it is way too tempting! I made my stock whip “custom” by putting tape over the stripes on the handle and a colored martingale stopper on the end. Unfortunately I dropped it at Marlborough last fall and I think @tarheelmd07 still has it somewhere, so I can’t make an excuse to get a new one yet.

If I have to pay $100+ to ensure that my horse doesn’t hurt as much because of a stitched edge hitting him at the wrong angle, I’m ok with it.

Lots of equine equipment has improved in the last 20 years, why not a whip.

@Saskatoonian thanks for the link. They definitely look good.

@Xctrygirl that whip does look interesting, though hurting my horse is not a big concern for me…95% of the time at least I hit my own leg. I probably deserve any additional pain if I already deserve to get hit with the whip.

@FrittSkritt obviously, you need a spare…or deserve an upgrade…or something…

I mentioned in my post that I ordered a custom one and love it! If you have any questions send them an email, they are more than happy to help and can give better, detailed answers than me or anyone else on here.

I believe mine is Medium but it’s been several years since I ordered and can’t recall the specs. I was lucky enough to handle several at their booth at a show, but they can give you very detailed answers via email.
