Looking for a Hunter/Jumper trainer in Southern Pines, NC

I’m going to go on a golf vacation with my husband in October, but since I don’t golf I’ll be filling my days with lessons and riding! Can anyone recommend a good place to take lessons in Southern Pines, NC? I don’t have a horse, but am currently an intermediate/advanced rider according to my current trainer. I’m not competitive, but I do enjoy working on skills. A fun trainer rather than one who yells is much preferred. I’m also willing to explore other disciplines at a beginner level, including driving. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

SP is unlike many other areas; there are not many h/j boarding barns, because so many people keep their horses at home.

The only place I can think of is FoxTrack – I am pretty sure that they have horses that you can take lessons on. I cannot speak to the driving or Western people though.

I don’t know who has lesson horses but there are tons of top eventing trainers in the area. Doug Payne, Charles Plumb, Mike Plumb, Will Faudree, Andrew McConnon, Marc Donovan, Bobby Stevenson, Bobby Costello … the list goes on… Foxtrack is great and likely has a lesson program as they have great schooling shows.

Jeanne Hobbs is in Southern Pines and she does have a few horses available for lessons. I would be happy to give you her contact info if you PM me!

I do not know how far you are willing to travel but checkout Carrie Everhart at Shawnee Acres. She is in Lucama. She does everything and maybe you might like the dark side…She does 4-h , pony club, dressage H/J shows and events. At her farm she even has a little XC of her own! Good training too…

Thank you for all the great suggestions! I will check out Foxtrack and look into a few others that were mentioned. I need to stay close to Pinehurst because I will be taking 4-8 lessons in 4 days (4 riding and hopefully 4 driving). I’m fully expecting that I’ll have to use multiple trainers since I doubt one trainer’s schedule can accommodate that!

Sent you a PM. There are many great options!

A rather timely thread, although I am actually moving to So Pines in a couple weeks. Any additional recommendations for Hunter and/or foxhunting barns with lesson horses?
