Looking for a long saddle pad, suggestions?

I always use a baby pad/all purpose quilted square pad under my saddle. My saddle is pretty average sized (17.5, not a very forward flap), but I find a lot of the square pads to be kind of short in terms of length on the spine.

Part of this could be that my horse has a decent sized sloping withers so I make sure to pull up the front of the pad off his withers. I just find the back of my saddle or half pad hanging an inch or so over the back of a lot of these pads. The SmartPak diamond AP pads are too short, my Eskadron one is funky too. Drop length is no problem.

Has anyone run into this? Any suggestions?

I have a 19" and need long spined pads also. I have an old Rambo pad, fluffy like a Poly Pad that fits. Dover also makes an extra long pad that works also depending on how much ‘pad’ you are looking for.

I have this issue too - 18" saddle plus half pad. The PRI pads have a longer spine than normal pads. The Dover pad spacehorse recommended is good too and has a nice shape. The Dover pad is much, much thinner than the PRIs. The PRIs are more like your Smartpak pad.

I had the same problem with my 17.5 saddle with a very forward flap. I got one of these and have been very happy with it - http://www.bitofbritain.com/Classic-III-Custom-Quilted-Cross-Country-Pads-p/21735x2.htm

It took awhile to arrive, but it’s well made and washes up like new.

I have one of the same pads from Bit of Britain that ponylady27 posted and find that it works well … Plus you can order in fun colors!

I have the Dover one (the one with a shaped topline for whither clearance) and use it with a Thinline and am very happy with the combination. I have to line the Thinline up with the back of the pad in order for everything to fit, but I’m using a 19" saddle. It isn’t a thick pad, but it has enough body that it doesn’t shift or bunch up.

I have a Horze River pad that is very generously sized and has a contoured top line - on the thin side so doesn’t add much bulk -

I have a similar issue with my Monoflap not fitting normal saddlepads. I believe that Dover sells extra long saddlepads.

USG pads tend to run on the larger side

I’ve also got a 17.5" forward flap, and the Ogilvy pads that I picked up at the Royal fit really well. I’m pretty sure they are the Profile model: https://ogilvyequestrian.com/en/store/product/jump-profilepad

(I bought them as “seconds” so they don’t have the button, although I’m not sure what exactly is wrong with them as they look pretty perfect ). I see on the website that they come in “large” so I wonder if this is what I’ve got. They are significantly larger than the regular “AP” square pads I’ve got (which don’t fit very well - the flap of my saddle is close to or over the front edge of those).

My jump saddle eats up pads too!

I found the Dover Rider’s extra large square pad to be more than adequate. I also got an Ogilvy profile pad for Christmas and it works great too.

I second PRI pads running long in the spine

I have the same problem with my draft cross. I also find that most pads are short in the other direction and stop just at the edge of the flap.
My new favorite pad is the Fleeceworks bamboo contour eventing pad. I love, love, love this pad, for the fit and the material it is made of. Perfect for hot Florida riding.

Same problem here! I buy the Horze all purpose quilted pads that come in extra length- have a bunch for schooling and a few I got embroidered to show in. Ecogold also makes their eurofit xc pad in an extra length spine and that fits great as well. Normal length off the rack pads never fit but these two brands do the trick!

Dover has exra long. Just look carefully, they have shaped and un-shaped in the same colors.

I have given up and just buy pads from SeamsRight http://www.seamsright.com/ By the time I pay for a ‘commercial’ pad of the right size, it is the same price as a MUCH higher quality custom pad. It does mean I don’t get the fun patterns, but oh well.

Her site is out of date, but her pads are amazing. I’ve had one for over 10 years of heavy use and it is just starting to show wear.
