Looking for a recommendation or info on Stonyhill Equestrian Center on Long Island

I’m an adult rider who does not have my own horse, and am looking for somewhere to take lessons. I have tried several of the better-known facilities and have found that they can be very busy with day camps, etc. I am more comfortable in a quieter atmosphere. I’m not looking to compete–just want to enjoy some lessons in a nice place. I don’t know anyone at Stonyhill, so was hoping to find out if it has a generally favorable reputation. Any other suggestions are appreciated also!

Stonyhill is a very nice facility, I don’t know the trainers (I know who James is but have never seen him teach) but I believe they have a school horse string which is hard to find nowadays. I think its worth trying, take a few lessons and see how you like it, you don’t have to make a long term commitment. Don’t they have a summer camp though?

Summer camp is a given on Long Island and it’s the best way to disrespect your boarders.

Try them all…Thomas School is the Gold Standard lesson barn with an indoor, albeit tiny.
Stony hill also has a tiny indoor, but I’m not up to date on them
Also CW Post University, talk to Brooke Chasin. Second generation in place

But the OP mentions she is looking for a “quiet” place which definitely eliminates Thomas’s and Post too IMO. And there is almost no riding for adults in the summer due to summer camp at TSH, the indoor at Post in the winter is a zoo when I have been there although they do have lesson horses ,

Maybe Knoll Farm in Brentwood? Although I don’t know its long term prospects, there have been rumors of it being sold for housing for a few years now, same with Gold Coast, TSH and Old Westbury. Soon there will be nothing left on LI.
