Moved to Lewisville,TX recently. Looking for a place with good school/lesson horses and trainers in the DFW area for a pre-teen who is just starting to jump. There are quite a few barns when I search online. It is hard to decide without some feedback from people who have had experience at these barns. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
What barns are you looking at?
Hunter Lane Inc. (http://hunterlaneinc.com/) is housed at Dallas Equestrian Center in the heart of Dallas and has a lesson program with quality schoolies and instructors. Many juniors ride there.
Treeline Stables (http://www.treelinestables.com/) slightly east of Plano has a lesson program. I do not know much about it, but have heard some good things from people who ride there. They also have lots of junior riders.
I suggest going to the North Texas Hunter Jumper Club website and checking out the member barns (http://www.nthjc.com/memberbarns[1].htm). It is a pretty comprehensive list of barns with lessons programs that also attend local shows.
Good luck! I ride in the DFW area but own my horse, so I am not super familiar with all the lesson programs. I do know that there are quite a few to choose from though, depending on your needs/goals. PM me if you have anymore questions!
Bridlewood Equestrian Center is in Flower Mound and they are good for beginners. There’s also Flower Mound Equestrian Center, Bay Yard Farms (I don’t know if they have schoolies), Hillcrest Farm, etc etc etc. Those are all way closer to where you are than the farms mentioned above.
The challenge is lesson program in that area. I think NTEC has lesson horses and worth a look.
Bridlewood in Flower Mound is probably going to be your best bet in terms of safe horses and a good environment for young kids.
What level are you looking at? Local circuits? A/AA?
Oh yes I forgot about Bridlewood. It is a lovely facility and probably your best bet location wise!
I’d suggest looking into Summer Hill Farms in Flower Mound. I rode in lessons with Megan for awhile and really enjoyed it. They also have an IEA team which would be fun for a pre-teen.
