I did actually spend the better part of a year with a sports psychologist (the one I linked). It was amazingly beneficial. We definitely made some big break throughs in some bad, bad show nerves, but also a lot of great stuff in my personal and professional life. While I haven’t seen him since I broke my leg 18 months ago, I attribute the peace and ease I’ve felt over some big changes I made because of that accident to the work we did. If you can find one that you work well with, it can be a really great thing. Also, realize that you have to have a relationship with whoever you settle on. You need to feel comfortable REALLY sharing, so if you don’t feel you can, it’s not a good fit. Sometimes you’ve got to shop around a bit, just like with trainers.
