Hello!
I am a high school senior and have been eventing around the west coast for about seven years. I was recently accepted to UCLA and as of now, I am planning on going there in the fall (along with my horse, of course). I’m originally from the LA area (I now live in Idaho) and I have competed at many different events around southern and central California so I know of some eventing barns and trainers near LA but I would really appreciate any input and advice about eventing barns with boarding options. Thanks!
There are a few eventing barns but they are not close to the UCLA campus in Westwood.
Off the top of my head Robyn Fisher’s place in Moorpark http://www.robynfisherllc.com/, Debbie Rosen’s place in Somis http://www.wildrideeventers.com/ and a little closer to UCLA in Sunland is Gina Economou’s place http://pepperwoodridingcenter.com/ All of these places have boarding/training options.
Best of luck to you!
Mill Creek is an eventing barn in Topanga. When I was in grad school at UCLA, they offered inexpensive lessons for UCLA students. I rode there quite a bit, and I used to work some of their school horses.
None of these places are easy to get to. Nothing is easy to get to in the LA area.
Mill Creek used to be the easiest from UCLA. Not sure about that now.
Would not recommend Goldspirit unless you like being yelled at a lot. And I mean a lot. Like constantly.
Yeah, hard to believe, but I left LA in 1997. OMG, over 20 years ago!
I ride at Goldspirit and board my horse there… I LOVE it. Susan’s super passionate and… loud… but she’s the kindest, most dedicated horseperson I know. Love her to pieces, love Goldspirit too. Amazing group of riders/boarders. I’m a sensitive cry baby! If I can handle her lessons, anyone can. She just wants you to be the most effective (SAFE) rider you can be. There’s my 2 cents!
