Looking for Eventing Trainer in Central Ohio

I am looking for a reputable trainer who can provide both myself and my horse instruction in the area of introductory eventing or foxhunting.

My horse is boarded near the Marysville and Delaware area and I would like to find some one nearby that would allow me to haul in for lessons.

Please provide contact information if you have a good recommendation.

Thank you!

I know of someone who is extremely reputable but she is over in the New Albany area. PM me for details if you wish

How far are you from Galena, OH? I have a friend, who is an instructor/trainer who has a place there.

This year, she rode my horse to a 7th place in BN-H at the AEC’s. If that is close, then I will PM you her info.

I believe Ellie McPhail is teaching now. She’s at www.redtailridgefarm.com in Johnstown. Ellie’s ridden through the CCI** level and was named to the Developing Rider list for eventing. Her mom also is MFH for local hunt. Be careful, there is someone in that area who calls themselves an eventing and dressage instructor, who never made it around a BN course, and has never shown recognized dressage, but has a website  Kara Andrew is in Creston, which might be too far for you, but she is good and holds clinics at her farm. www.foxcreekfarmeventing.com

Another vote for Kara Andrew!

I know who Parker’s Mom is referring to and I second that!

I think Barney Mullady is still in that area - I rode with him about a hundred years ago, he was wonderful.

Ellie is fantastic. I highly recommend her, she is quite affordable too. Bruce Mandeville often comes to our barn, too. (:

PM me if you need more!

Huge vote for Kara Andrew!! Great coach, great rider, and the MOST fun person to have on your side at an event!!!

Thanks everyone for you input and recommendations. I have found someone that sounds like they could be a very good fit for what I am hoping to achieve. I am looking forward to my first lesson this weekend!

Glad you found someone. I was going to recommend Laura Beaver (organizer of Gemwood and Greater Dayton, licensed course designer, etc.). If whomever you’re starting with doesn’t work out, look Laura up (horssports@aol.com)

Looking for good Eventing barn/trainer in NE Columbus area

I found this thread, and thought I’d try to see if I can find ideas for a good eventing trainer and barn in NE Columbus, OH area. My daughter attends Otterbein University in Westerville and has had her horse with her at a barn nearby. She is looking to move to a barn that has eventing trainer(s) and some cross-country facilities.

She has been eventing in Area 2 for several years, and currently has a 9 year old OTTB gelding that she would like to keep current so she can start eventing again when she comes home this summer.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations. We did try Redtail Ridge, but they don’t currently have any stalls available.

Thanks for any ideas!

Try Stonegate (Jackie Fisher Smith, Kyle Smith) and South Farm

Stonegate would be close to 2.5 hrs away with South Farm even further.

If you can’t get in to Redtail Ridge (Katy Groesbeck, trainer) Laura Beaver is in Canal Winchester, and there is a place called Trinity Stables in Pataskala, and another place in Pataskala or Johnstown, who’s name escapes me, but they run some minitrials there. Look on the Area 8 Facebook page. She could also ask any one in the Equine program at Otterbein where would be a good place.

timber run in alexandria maybe? i believe they have a XC course at least.

Heritage Farm is who hosts minitrials in that area. They’re a really great schooling series!
