Recently sold my farm in Georgia, and looking to rent to have time to find a place to eventually buy. Looking for a dog-friendly rental so figured since us horse-people have dogs, that maybe someone would know some place for rent in the area. Have 2 horses, so a place for horses would be great, but not required, since I can board my horses. Also any recommendations on places to board in the area with trail access would also be appreciated. But my main goal is to find a place for my husband and I to rent while we find our ideal place.

How close to Columbia do you need to be? I have seen several rentals in the Aiken area.
I work in downtown Columbia. If it was north of Aiken - like Wagener, that I could handle. But downtown Aiken is about 1.25 hours from Columbia. I would consider it if my options ran out. And I do love Aiken, if I could stand the commute I would do it. Right now, have not seen anything. the house I’m selling closes on the 15th of January, and I’ve been looking for a month now, and nothing. I just hate to jump into buying something just because I have not other options. So would be interested to hear what you might know about. Thx!

My budget is $1200/mo. I have excellent credit. I have not rented anything in well over 15 years, and I would prefer not to if given the choice. But have noticed that people seem to treat renters as a second class citizen…like there is something wrong with you—just the impression I’ve gotten. I just cannot find the right place even tho from time of sale to closing on our place will have had 60 days, which is longer than typical.
We just found a small place to rent in Aiken. 4 horse farm with cute house. It’s on the far side of Aiken relative to Columbia and we got to the airport from the house in much less than 1.25 hours. I think if you look in the Wagener area you’re looking at more like 45 mins, and it’s straight, beautiful highway.
Better to have a longish commute than no home! Plus, Aiken has more trails than you’d know what to do with! Boarding and riding would be SO easy!

There are several horse Facebook groups for Aiken. Have you tried posting on those? Also, Tracy Turner with Meybohm Realty in Aiken has found rentals for people. She has horses and is very helpful. Anything close to I-20 obviously would be great for your commute. Good luck!
thanks Kachina, I have seen those sites, but just not posted anything. I’ve looked to see if there are any rentals. I did talk to someone with Meybohm Realty, and she did not know of any rentals, except intown ones.

I live in Gaston and my husband works in Columbia, it takes him about 30 min with traffic.
Have you looked in Camden? I own a boarding facility in Camden that has access to Hunt Country. You can trail ride for days! Camden has a lot of rentals right now (matter of fact there is one right across the street from me). Most places in Camden are dog friendly too. We are renting right now until our house is built at our barn and our landlord allows dogs. Feel free to PM me if youd like more information!
