Looking for hay in SE PA!!

I am a small farm (2 horses) in Newtown Square, PA. I was using a hay farmer that I was very happy with until my last 3 shipments that have progressively gotten worse quality as the prices rose.

So I am not on the hunt for hay. I need a quality grass mix for a reasonable price. I can pick it up or get it delivered. I am trying to stay away from hay auctions for several reasons (one being I can RARELY get to one). I cannot buy in enormous bulk as I only have two horses, but would consider trying to split a large load with a local farm.

So I know there are fellow SE PAers here, where can I get some hay??

I am moving to SE PA this Oct/Nov. I am worried about finding hay at that time of year, so I would love to find a source as well. I have a great hay source here in MA right now, but moving 300 bales to PA does not seem feasible.

Yes and now it is more urgent. I just opened a letter from my hay man stating they will be going out of business:eek::no:

So who does everyone in the area use?

As I said before I cannot go by hay auctions as I can rarely get up to them and I would like a supplier I can use over and over again.

But in the mean time, does anyone know where nice hay is available? I will come get it or pay for delivery

Hay in se pa

Gap, PA area. $4/bail of really nice, REALLY NICE, alfalfa-rich hay. Nice and rich. Nice and heavy. Also, cheap shavings.

I will have some extra very lovely grass and timothy 2008 small bales as we sold some horses. mbjenny@mac.com

How much hay would you take at a time?

Stevens Hay is AMAZING…I have bougt from him for years…BUT…his prices are AMAZING and when you tack on delivery (contract driver) its skyrockets.

Try…Bob Miller, Dr Miller Rd, Northeast MD.
Grows his hay is a full time farmer, and you can go into the Mow and see your hay before its loaded. 443-553-5378:yes::yes::yes:

Also try Andy Engle Route 10 Oxford PA Cross Bar Farm. 717-572-7083

Andy buys form auctions or privaetly like Steven. His prices are very fair and so is the delivery.
But quality can be inconsistant since its not from the same sources load to load. But he also is a heck of a nice fair guy to deal with.

If you can pick-up I would invest in a subscription to the Lancaster Farm Journal a weekly paper full of farming information. And the advertising section will have a ton of ads for hay usually small lots you pick-up mostly Amish so no Sunday sales…but makes for a nice outing.
welcome to PA…
