Our local horse show club is having a show in two weeks and I’m needing ideas for a fun game to play during the lunch break. We usually do a mounted game but with it being hot we want to try and do a game without involving their horses. Most of the riders are 4H kids. Does anyone have any ideas?
Egg toss?
izzy dizzy, wheelbarrow race, three legged race…
Bridle race. Two kids per team one kid has their hands holding the bit out in front of them and the other kid steering them using the end of the reins. They can go through a course or just around cones. No talking or other cues.
Sack race, if you can find sacks that are longer. I swear they only make them munchkin size. If you don’t want to do an egg toss, a water balloon toss is always fun, and only wet, compared to wet and messy. Stick horse barrel race is always a hoot. Boot race, though it might work to the advantage of western riders. Musical chairs can be fun too.
- Egg and spoon
- water ballon toss, you can do these as teams too, like a line of kids that have a few balloons tossing the balloon down the line and back, but you can only have one water balloon in your hands at a time.
- timed bridle assembly
- corn hole
- trivia split into teams ??
- tug of war
- limbo
- bucket challenge. Everyone gets in line and has a bucket. The first person pours their bucket filled with water over their head to the person behind and the person behind has to catch the falling water
- Hula hoop pass: kids form a circle holding hands; they work together to pass a hula hoop from the beginning of their circle to the end without unhooking their hands.
- red light green light

I forgot to mention. The “horses” in the bridle races are blindfolded.
I assume you want games that allow the kids to not need to change to continue the show day?
This sounds so fun, I want to try it!
