Looking for info on Eventing/ boarding Asheville NC area?

Thinking about planning a move, as I am getting a bit tired of the colorado winters. Asheville NC is on the list of possibilities. Just wondering about the eventing and horse boarding scene out there. I have friends that live there but none of them are horsey. Any info would be great…thanks

Eric Dierks is close - in Tryon, NC, http://www.renovatiofarm.com. Long Shadow is just over the NC/SC border http://www.longshadowsfarmsc.com. Beth Perkins is in the area as well - http://www.bethperkinseventing.com/Contact/contact.htm

There is a ton going on in Tryon - nice Jumper and Dressage barns too.

More horsey south of Ashville proper than elsewhere. Tryon is huge, of course, and I keep seeing more pop up around the Hendersonville area. There are lots of events in driving distance: Tryon Equestrian Center (who are supposed to be running regular events any time, and are hosting AEC this year), Wind Ridge, FENCE all locally, and Aiken is 3hrs. I don’t know if they’re having any events at the Fork anymore, or just moving the CIC to Tryon, but that’s a couple hours as well. You’re 4-5 hrs from Southern Pines, 5-6 hrs from Va Horse Center, I’m not sure how far from the TN events. It’s high on my list of retirement areas.

Just moving back to the area- there is a lot horse wise going on, and Tryon is the place to be for sure. I am going to be in Charlotte (Oh SUCH a long story and not a super happy one) but will be glad to have my boy have pasture and lots of hacking.

Overall, its a really great area for horses. Tryon EC is supposed to be amazing, and the KHP is ~6hrs away. Aiken has lots going on, and Beth Perkins is fantastic. Amy Barrington is also there and I think still teaching. Good Dressage instruction too.

My sister lived in Asheville for a while and boarded at the Biltmore. Lovely place with tons of room to ride and just spectacular grounds. Not far from Tryon if you wanted to haul out for lessons.

Thanks For all the info. Planning a trip to check out the area.

I know this was a long time ago, but what did you find on your trip? I’m pretty much going to have to move there to be near my grandmother who is an hour away in Franklin so I don’t want to board my horse 1 hour in the opposite direction.
