So I am finally purging the tack room and have several western saddles to sell off. But I am somewhat stymied as to where to post them.
Craigslist can be so sketchy, but has local distribution.
Ebay seems expensive and scam filled.
Most of the local horse sites around here are English oriented. (New England).
Any advice on other sites to check out, or input on using the above methods?
I’m okay with shipping, just want to avoid the headaches associated with selling stuff.
TIA.
I wish we had free coth classifieds.
Will any fit a flat backed Arabian?
I sold some saddles off of Kijiji, which is kind of a less sketchy Craigslist. I offer a 1 week trial if prepaid.
Facebook has some good horse & tack sales groups…look for one in your area.
Any tack sales in your area?
What is the price range you are hoping to get? Higher end I would send to someone to sell on commission, but lower end I would advertise at any western barns, 4H clubs or open horse shows.
What about contacting a local tack store ? Some stores will sell on commission or may even offer a trade by giving you credit for an agreed value of the saddles.
I use Craigslist, have sold lots of stuff on it. Plus, it’s free. Sometimes it does take a little while for the right buyer to come along, but it beats paying 25% or more on commission. No harm in putting ads on a couple free sites.
Thanks for the input.
We don’t have any decent consignment shops near me. I tried to trade my show set to one shop towards a new saddle, and they offered $400.
For a complete show set with Montana silver that I paid $1,800 for and used twice.
I know they are trying to make a living, but geeze…
Beside that set, I have using tack stuff, trail and pleasure saddles, not the Circle Y or Tucker names that are big around here, but still decent American Saddlery and Textan stuff. Brands that just doesn’t seem to be as popular in New England anymore.
I was told they market better towards the middle of the country rather than here. I don’t know if that’s true or not.
I will check out the link above and Kiji as well. Thanks!
You can also try Tack trader.com(Dream Horse), HGSforum has free tack classifieds and as mentioned before Facebook tack groups.
