Looking for lessons in Maryland

I am located in Towson and willing to travel a maximum of 45 minutes away for lessons. I do not have my own horse, or any experience really  Last time I rode I was 13. I have emailed several people but their rates are high for my budget. I can afford $50 per lesson.

I assume since you posted in eventing that you are looking for eventing-focused barns…I am not sure you could make it in 45 minutes (you probably could, if not in rush hour traffic), but you could take a look at Waredaca.
They have lesson horses capable of doing some basic eventing, and have a program that incorporates a lot of riding outside on the cross country fields, if you are interested in that.
I believe they do 10 week series at 40$/a lesson.

St. Timothy’s School in Stevenson does a package of 8 lessons for $360 or a la carte at $50/lesson

Full Moon Farm in Finksburg does a package of 9 lessons for $360 and they’re very eventing-focused

I think Waredaca and Full Moon Farm are both more than 45 minutes away, though both are good suggestions. I think Liv Stringer told me that Daniel Clasing was giving lessons at An Otherwise Perfect Farm, which would be within 45 minutes (http://www.otherwiseperfectfarm.com/), but I’m not entirely sure about that. Here’s more info on Daniel - https://www.facebook.com/clasingeventing - he’s based at Yardley Hill Farm in White Hall.

I love my trainer and her lessons are a reasonable $40. http://www.whisperinghollow.net

Full Moon is about 25mi from Towson, definitely do-able in under 45 min unless going in the heart of rush-hour. Waredaca is about 50mi, so probably outside the 45-min radius.

If Daniel is teaching at OPF, I doubt he has school horses there…but I can find out and get back to the OP

Whoops! For some reason, in my head, I had it out by Frederick. My mistake. Love Karen Fulton and they have a great lesson program.

Thanks everyone! I have contacted Full Moon Farm and will go there for an evaluation this Friday. Google maps puts it at about 35 minutes away.

Olney Farm in Joppa, Harford County.

Full Moon Farm was my first thought for you.

You could also try Playland Farm (www.playlandequestriancenter.com), which is a little outside your travel requirement, but also has a great lesson program.

OP- Add about 15 min on to whatever google suggests… It does a poor job at adding traffic time. I speak from experience.

It took me about 35 minutes to get there, so not too bad. There was definitely bad traffic on the way home when I left at 3 however, but that was expected. Michelle is very nice and informative! I’ll be back next week for another lesson  Thanks everyone for your help!

You’ll have a blast! The FMF people are truly wonderful. On top of that, they have the most fun, low-key horse trials around.
