Looking for names for a Dutch horse

Hey all
I have a Dutch horse being born this spring and I need to come up with a registered name for him/her.
Sire is Olympic Ferro.
I really like the sound of horse names in French, but I think Dutch would be better.

Any help would be appreciated as I don’t speak it!

Besides names like ‘Dutch Treat’ and ‘Dutch Chocolate’ you could always use names that point to iron as ferrous is ionic state of iron. Or… google Dutch cities and find lots of names that give you lots of choices. What is the dam named? also congrats on the impending baby horse.

The KWPN uses sequential letters of the alphabet each year as the first letter of a foal born in that year’s name. So, you should probably find out what the letter is for 2021. Congratulations on a foal by Ferro! NICE!!

What Registry? If it is the KWPN or NA/WPN you must give the horse a name that starts with the specific letter for that particular year.

My horse was born in 2000 so his name had to start with a T.

Now, if you arent planning to register the foal then you can pick any name .

Be ready for announcers to butcher a complicated Dutch name for the rest of the horse’s life.

Unless of course you live and show in the Netherlands.

I’ve heard announcers do a very good job pronouncing names in various languages. I’m not concerned

The Dutch word for romance is Romantiek. Then there’s Roestig (rusty). Rotsachtig (rocky).
Roken is smoking. Just some ideas. If you Google "Dutch words that start with R. Then find words you like, put them into translate/google and see if it seems like a good fit. That’s what I did.

Hahahaha! I had a friend with a horse named A Les Bien (all is well in French). One announcer called her “A lesbian.” So, yeah, they can sometimes screw it up.

Lol

Rie, Rika, and Ria are popular first names in the Netherlands.
And here 's a list of towns, scroll down to find all towns that begin with R. Not a promising source of ideas, because Dutch is not a very accessible language for the avg american. The city Rijsvijk is pronounced like Rice-Vike, but it would sure be entertaining to hear an announcer attempt it.

That said, I see “Radio” is a town name. Even though the dutch connection won’t be obvious (and they would pronounce it “RAHdio”), it has potential for some cute names like Radio Flyer, Radio Flygirl, Radio Silence, Radio Star

Love this idea, it sounds so classic! Plus you could use Roman or Roma as a nickname.

Also, if the horse is a filly it is tradition to continue the motherline name. There is usually a suffix that goes generation to generation, does your mare have one?

I have Je T’Aime, and am waiting for it. Though locally we have a fabulous announcer and she will get it right.

(Edited because autocowreck decided our announcer was famous, not fabulous)

Not Dutch, but what about Rococo? The aesthetic style featured “roundness” and was “lighter” than the baroque style.
