Looking for OTTB project/ maybe keeper in CA

I would like to get an OTTB project horse. Limited budget (not the $6,000 and $8,000 horses on Canter CA) No huge hurry. I’m am wondering if anyone can point me toward good prospects. Ideally I would like a filly aged 3 to 4. 16.2 hands. Good conformation. Good mind.
What bloodlines do you like to see in a prospective event horse?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

TB bloodlines we like to see in event prospects anyone?

Have you looked at MidAtlantic Horse Recue? They are having a Mare Madness" half price sale of several young OTTBs.

Well, I’m on the west coast so mid Atlantic is likely not too close. If time/money were no object, it might are different.

Looking through CANTER’s site, I see quite a few cute ones that are in the $2,000-$4,000 range.

You might want to reach out to Sarah Parlier at Equine Racers, I have never worked with her personally but I know a few people who have gotten OTTBs from her who recommend her.

I’ve heard good things about Sarah Parlier as well. Alana Curtis at Sunfire Equestrian is also a great trainer to connect with.

You might try New Vocations—they have an affiliate in LA, which is halfway to CA. Seems that they usually have mares, and I’ve seen some really nice ones. You can call the LA site directly, get approved as an adopter and they will keep their eyes open for something you’re looking for.

I’m in TX and adopted a gelding from them in KY. The big cost is shipping—especially right now. Seems to me though, I’ve seen nice horses for very reasonable prices that even with shipping, they are still not as high as 6-8K.
