Looking for quality horse on the west coast--who to contact?

I don’t have contacts on the west coast. Who do you recommend to find a high quality horse? If you would rather PM me, that’s fine. Thanks in advance.

You might get better response by defining what you mean by “high quality”.

Are you meaning a schoolmaster, a horse with a show record or a young horse with potential?
Is breeding important? If yes, what bloodlines?

Any particular state?

I’ve had great success buying from both Kari McKain and Jennifer Williams in WA and would go back there if I was in the market.

W Farms has a steady inventory but I have no personal experience shopping there.

I know of several other folks in So Cal that I’d trust.

PM if you want more details.

Yes, I think more details about price range and competitiveness, training level, age, all matter. As well as if you’re talking high quality Iberian, warmblood, etc.

Thanks, atlatl. I have contacted Jennifer Williams–she has some interesting horses on her website. I’ll check out your other suggestions. I’ve also contacted David Blake, and will probably contact Christine Traurig and Charlotte Bredhal to see if they know of anything. I’m willing to look all up and down the west coast. I’m coming from the east coast, so its already a long way…
I’m looking for a high quality warmblood, and I’ll discuss my price range with the sellers!

Maybe goes without saying but DG Bar?

Ah, HA! It does not go without saying! Thank you–it had not occurred to me to contact them! Thanks!

@Silverbridge I think you will have some suggestions.

If you tell us more age, whether you’re looking for schoolmaster or green, a winner at the National or international level, etc., we can know whether or not to point you to various horses,

I would agree DG Bar, and some of the trainers that came out of there (Willy Arts can give you names, there are a few in the Sacramento region that often have a few nice younger sales horses). Sarah Lockman, Jessica Wisdom, David Blake, Sabine Schutt Kerry - all assuming you are looking for Warmbloods, and have a “serious” budget. You might also check with Craig Stanley, Brian Hafner, Alejandro Salazar - all tend to have some nice sales horses go through the barn - more often younger horses then FEI horses.

Rebecca rigdon

Joseph Newcomb in San Diego, especially if looking for a young horse.

I’ve bought two youngsters from Edgar Schutte’s (Edgar on CoTH) breeding program. I believe he mostly has young stock, but may be worth a look. His website is https://www.eurequine.com/

There’s another CoTH poster who has a small breeding program in the same general area. I believe she posts under stripes and her website is http://www.goldenoakarabiansandwarmbloods.com/

They both have Facebook pages which may be more up to date than the websites.

Good luck!

Here is his website:

He has an amazing eye for dressage horses, they are absolutely dreamy! I subscribe to his videos on YouTube, they are very enjoyable when I have time to watch them.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help, everyone. COTH is the best for this kind of thing! To those of you who sent me PM’s, thank you–for some reason, I can’t seem to answer you directly. :-/

Jospeh Newcombe and Jennifer Williams in the US. If looking for a youngster, suggest Dreamscape Farm in Canada. Exchange rate definitely favours US buyers right now
