Looking For Trainer in Southeast AL/West GA

Any suggestions?

I have an 8 year old Arab mare who is in need of a tune-up and some finishing. She is a little more than green broke but has been standing in a field for several years. I’m looking for someone with a ranch/reining/cow horse background. I’d like someone to ride her for 30-90 days and include weekly lessons in the training package.

I’m perfectly capable of doing the work myself but just don’t have the time to ride consistently enough to make any progress at her current level of training.

Any suggestions?

Where exactly in southeast AL? Are we talking Eufaula - Andalusia - Dothan - Albany? Because when people around here say West GA they mean more like Carrollton, and that’s a right far piece from Eufaula, etc.!

Haha. I’m learning that! I’ve only been down here since July. I’m in Auburn. Anywhere within a 2-ish hour drive would be do-able.

Stephen Freeman is in Auburn. His farm is Old South Equine. Very nice guy and a quiet rider. He does ranch versatility.

He’s great. And full. He was my plan for my mare, but that didn’t work out, sadly, so I’m looking for Plan B.

Andy Castro is in Brooks GA. It is probably 1.5 to 2 hours. He is wonderful as well. What are you looking to do with your horse? Kathleen Lindley is nearby too. She was a student of Mark Rashid. I have heard mixed reviews of her. I think she does western dressage.

Henry Wynn, Thomas County I believe. Always turns out a nice horse.

The mare’s ultimate career will be broodmare, but I’d like to show her a little in the ranch pleasure classes that AHA shows are adding; we may dabble in some western dressage as well.

Thanks for those names! I’ll look into them.
