Looking to try Jumpers, HELP!

I have a youth who is interested in trying jumpers with my mare but it’s been years since I’ve been up to date on tack in the jumper ring. Our first show is schooling .6m but if they do well will be looking into trillium type shows (We’re in Ontario) My question is, Saddle pads? Are they to be strictly white? Would red or burgundy be acceptable, same as boots and fly bonnet? Do they allow bling browbands? I’m not talking mega bling but just a thin line of bling. Thanks in advance!

Can you get a prize list for the show(s)? It should tell you the rules. If not, you can usually contact the show secretary with your questions.

Definitely check the rules of the specific show series, but generally schooling shows tend to be more relaxed, and the jumper ring in particular is also more tolerant of bolder colors. Even at rated shows in the US you see plenty of people opting for colored fly bonnets, but usually the saddle pads are white.

My rule of thumb is that I don’t mind being a bit more formal or polished than I have to be, but I definitely don’t want to be less turned out than the norm.

I’m almost positive there is no rule regulating what color saddle pads or bonnets must be. I always prefer white because it is the most tidy look, I think, but many gals from my barn use the navy blue Antares pads with matching bonnets.

bling brow bands are also allowed in the jumper ring. Personal preference I think!

Bling brow bands and coloured saddle pads will be fine. As long as everything is clean and in working order you’ll be fine. Same goes for show clothing.

Even for a schooling show, I recommend reading through EC’s rules - that way, you’ll be following the correct tack and dress for when you move up.

Here’s a link to the EC rulebook that includes jumpers: https://www.equestrian.ca/cdn/storag…d6uDa5RXaH.pdf

Section G109 has general dress rules, then G502 and G503 are specific to jumpers.

It’s worth reading the whole thing to make sure there isn’t something else that might get you eliminated!
