I just went and looked at a horse. His tatoo starts with an “I” was wondering what year that was? Want to make sure of his age…I have the Tatoo number is it easiest to go to the JC for the pedigree?
“I” is 2005.
To find out the horse’s identity, you can research the horse’s tattoo here: JC Free Tattoo ID Service. You have to register to be able to use the interactive registry, but that’s free.
Once you know the horse’s name, you can plug that in at equineline.com. (See the box on the right hand side of the home page for free 5-cross pedigrees.)
Do all tatoos have 5 digits? his only had 4? I put it in. Let’s see what we come up with…
Thanks
If he only has a letter and 4 digits, he could be a Standardbred or an Appendix (though if he is young and has a tattoo instead of a freezebrand I’d say he’s unlikely to be a STB)
Try the partial tattoo search and matching up by markings, it could also be that one of the digits is just badly faded.
Is there a STB registry I can go to? I did a search and it came up without results
If you go to FUGLYs Horse Reunions site, there is contact info for each registry as well as information on what kind of tattoo/brand each breed has
