Lost my coggins papers!

They are not in the pile I put in them and I have a VERY good opinion they were thrown away as it was gone through two weeks ago.

I want to go to a show in three weeks! What do I do?!

This is my first horse I literally don’t know what the process is. Do I just call my vet and get a new one?

Call the Vet Clinic where the blood was drawn. They should have the test on file and be able to give you a copy.

Call your vet and have them fax you a copy, and ask them to also put another original in the mail for you.

You have three weeks, so even if the one mailed to you doesn’t make it in time, a fax copy is acceptable.

your vet may even be on the Global VetLink. If so, they can easily send you an electronic copy.

Not to worry OP, you will be fine.

Hahaha I feel like such an idiot whenever something like this comes up. I’m probs the most ignorant horse owner ever sometimes.

There are no stupid questions. Well, okay, there are…but this isn’t one of them. It’s one of those things you couldn’t be expected to know unless you asked.

Just for future purposes… I keep a copy in my truck, a copy in my trailer and now do the digital coggins so I always have a copy on my smart phone. I drove three hours to an event one time only to find that I didn’t have a copy. After being burned a couple of times you will keep copies everywhere!

I lose mine several times a year. But then I go on Global Vetlink and print out another copy.

Does that mean your horse is going better now?

What I do when I get my coggins I scan it and then make a bunch of copies. That way if I lose all my copies (and the original) I can simply print a new one.

Ask your vet for another copy?

We’re doing an in-hand showmanship class at a small schooling show. He is getting better but he’s nowhere near ready for a ridden show and I really want him to have a lyme test run before we go back under saddle again (it’s been a few weeks, he randomly went lame and probably just stepped on a rock or something but I’m paranoid). He’s fine with on the ground work and is a total ham so it’ll probably be okay :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t want to push him. We’ve seen progress but not an overwhelming amount of progress. He had one lyme test last year but I want to cross my Is and dot my Ts. We can still have plenty of fun at in-hand shows this summer.

Here’s a suggestion for when you get your Coggins. Scan it and save it as a .pdf file. I have mine in various places, including in a folder on Dropbox. I also keep hard copy, but those scanned copies have saved my butt a few times.

Got it! Vet emailed me a copy. Crisis averted.

Even if you don’t have the digital copy, you can make a PDF scan of it and email it to yourself. (or take a picture on your phone) I do this for all coggins and vaccine bills and name it something searchable so I can just type it into gmail search on my phone and voila.
