Lovely NYTimes obit for Karen Stives

It’s well worth reading.

Wonderful article. What a great horsewoman! Talented and tough.

I am feeling very old…

That was good.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for sharing!

A lovely obituary, and perhaps the best concise explanation of eventing for the non-horse-person that I’ve ever read:

“Pairing one rider with one horse through a series of disparate trials, it requires, on the part of the rider, delicacy and coordination, instinct and intelligence, athleticism and courage; on the part of the horse, discipline, grace, speed, power and endurance; and between them, unbreakable trust and exquisite communication.”

Thank you Viney. A lovely tribute to Karen, and I agree with Nevertime that it includes a brief but accurate description of eventing. Was that written by the USEA or the Times? (In case I want to quote it someday).

Thank you viney for this.

I was so shocked and saddened to read of this the other day.

A wonderful horsewoman.

I never realized how young she was.

Rest in peace.

It was written by one of the Times’ long-time obit writers, who is a good friend of mr. Asterix. Although he didn’t ask us for any input (he knows I ride but I suspect he didn’t remember I event), his partner spent her childhood with horses and I am sure was helpful
