And so much fun to see Brian Lenehan judging in a cowboy hat ! Yeah boy!
The “breeds” have tons of sponsorship money. I am amazed at the prize money in these classes!
Wasn’t there a year a few of the major hunter riders went to the AQHA congress and won all sorts of major awards?
I just watched my brother win Reserve Champion in the Sr Hunter Hack on Assets Agenda. I’m supposed to be doing homework, but it was a pleasant distraction. lol
I’ve become very interested in the AQHA Hunter derbies that they host. It would be neat to have a horse that could cross into those when they’re available in my area. They offer a lot more accessible prize money in my opinion.
Finals in most of the fence classes tomorrow (Sunday) morning starting at 8 am central time. Link to all are on the other thread I started.
aabradley82 - when did they move to Texas?
aabradley82, we are SOOO lucky to have them here in Texas, and I would not be surprised to see the Quarter horse hunters boom in Texas because of them.

They’ve been in TX for about 3 or 4 years now. Not any closer to me which makes me sad, but I’m so happy they are doing so well there!
David and Scott are really committed to their craft. I know that David has worked very hard to promote the Hunter Derby’s and I am really proud of all he has done. I only wish I was close enough for him to help me with my stubborn warmblood. Lol
Can someone explain AQHA Boxing?

Not to mention they are incredibly fun to be around! Even at our small local HJ shows, they are so fun and warm. They are a well oiled machine, and their program is extraordinary. We dont even have to mention all of Daves awesome show jackets and boots either… He seriously has the best style, and his riders are always dressed to the nines too. We have one of their horses in the barn currently, and he is amazing.
Boxing is a two part class: reining pattern followed with a single cow turned into the arena which should be held in the end of the arena or “boxed” for 50 seconds. Can be held in youth or amateur division, for exhibitors who don’t show in the regular cowhorse classes “down the fence”.

Thank you!
A lot of AQHA hunters here cross over into the A circuit shows. They do well in both. They don’t do flat AQHA classes though. Flatting and over fences require basically two different horses. Some horses can do both. But it’s completely a different style of riding.

I definitely agree!
I know several trainers who cross into the derbies when they can. I would love a Sky’s Blue Boy horse someday to do both USHJA and AQHA derbies.
I show in AQHA, in the ranch events. I was watching the jumping yesterday since it was before cow horse. I used to follow USEF jumping quite a bit but it was many, many years ago. Are all the jumpers naughty now? I was a bit shocked at the AQHA jumpers and how bad they behaved, no softness and the riders constantly jerking on them. I do not mean this as an insult, but I was just a bit shocked. The hunters were lovely…

Eh. With any other discipline, some people just shouldn’t be showing at said level. I happen to know there are a few AQHA jumpers that cross over into A/AA jumpers. However, it seems that at even some A/AA shows, jumpers don’t get smoother rides until the fences get much higher.
Thanks! I was just a bit shocked. We will see how the amateurs look today. It has been 20 + years since I have watched jumping.

Here is the interview with David after winning the Junior(horse under 6 years) Working Hunter. What a lovely horse and great round.
So happy for Dave. TOLD you that was a nice horse! (in the other thread I guess). I’ve seen it in person, and it glides.
