Low Adult Hunters vs Modified Adult Hunters vs Low Hunters and Stirrup Cup Finals

I tried doing a bunch of thread searches, but the answers were kind of vague, so I thought I would try again!

I’m based in NY and am looking to do the FWPHA (http://www.fwpha.com/) as well as potentially qualifying for Bit o’ Straw (M&S) and then I was also interested in qualifying for Stirrup Cup Finals.

I’m prize list illiterate at this point and could use some guidance.

For FWPHA points I can do the Low Hunter (2’6" division) and I can also do the Modified Adult Hunter (also a 2’6" division). Bit o’ Straw is self-explanatory and I already have points accrued. What’s really tripping me up is Stirrup Cup Finals. They offer the Low Adult Hunters (again, 2’6"), but every time I look at a prize list for a “B” or “C” show, this specific class isn’t listed.

For example, at the last 2 “C” shows I competed at, I ended up doing the Modified Adult Hunters, which should count for FWPHA, but won’t count for Stirrup Cup.

I’m showing again this weekend and my options are, Low Hunters OR Modified Children/Adult Hunters coupled with the Bit o’ Straw. I don’t see an option for Low Adult Hunters.

My long winded story now brings me to my question, within the prize list, does it specifically have to say Low Adult Hunters, OR will Low Hunters count as well? I would guess not, but figured I would ask.

Thanks in advance, fellow COTHER’s!!!

I have no idea, but just to be on the safe side, I would contact whoever runs the Stirrup Cup Finals to get the exact qualification information.

Typically those would not be the same for purposes of points in most organizations, but the only way to know for sure is to contact the organizers in advance. Around here, low hunters would usually be an open division, whereas low adults would be limited to adult amateurs.

As I understand it, I don’t think you can accumulate points for stirrup cup finals in any old 2’6 class. It has to be at non-A-rated shows (B or C), in your zone, in “low adult” classes. If the shows near you don’t offer “low adult,” you need to ask them to offer it or else you’re going to be stuck. You can’t go do low hunters instead, the points wouldn’t count.

If you’re in Zone 2, lots of shows in the zone offer the low adults. You just might have to drive a bit. I show in NJ, lots of NJ and SEPA B and C shows offer it. Maybe go here…

Click on the names of some people from NY who qualified, and see what shows they went to? Hopefully some are near you.
