Low income riding program in Los Angeles? I want to donate lessons.

This is a cross post from Off Course. I know there is a strong LA presence on this part of the forum.

After watching a video of the Fletcher Street Riding Club in Philly, I am inspred to vounteer lessons to a similar program on this coast. I’ve Google searched various ways but have come up empty handed.

Does anyone know of a grass roots program offering horse interaction with street kids or low income kids in LA? Any help in getting me looking in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Compton Jr Posse is the only one I know off the top of my head. They are a good organization from my experience and have been running a solid program for a long time now. Here’s their website:http://www.comptonjrposse.org/

Horses in the Hood is run by Kathy Kusner

I’m located on the East coast and have been wanting to volunteer with Compton Jr. Posse forever. I would jump on that if I lived there!

I don’t really know anything, but read an article at one point

OP - you might want to check with area therapeutic riding centers. I was involved for years with a great facility in NE Ohio; their focus evolved from to include “at risk” kids from a number of schools around a multi county area. They do some classroom type work, groom, ride and otherwise spend time with the horses.

Not quite what you are looking for but really a worthy endeavor.
