Lubrisyn,Cosequin ASU, or Cetyl M

Your general opinions for arthritis and inflammation. Thanks!

Lubrisyn has been my go to for my horses, my dog and me. I’ve used it off and on for several years because it is very effective in not only making the horse (or dog) more comfortable as in almost instant pain relief but it seems to quiet the inflammation also. It is expensive, I buy it by the gallon when I need it, but it does work very well.

I use Cosequin ASU as I am not able to get to the barn daily. I make up baggies for the week and they are fed. I would not be able to feed anything liquid as have to have baggies ready to be fed.

yep Lubrisyn is definitely worth the money

You don’t have it listed but I have had super good luck with Conquer gel.

Let’s see: I’ve used Adequan, Chrondo Protect, and another polyglycan–all with noticeable results, but nothing dramatic. Currently, I’m injecting Cetyl-D-Glucosamine, with the same effect.

I also use topical Voltaren that I order from Canada. I shave the part that’s creaky: hocks/knees/what have you, then smooth it on. Don’t wrap this if you do it.

I think that Cosequine ASU plus is the only oral that has shown any efficacy. Long ago, before the company was sold, I got pretty good results from CortaFlex. I bought one bottle after that, and it was useless.

*(I used to buy this from Feel Best Pharmacy in Ontario, but they’ve evidently gone out of business. Now, I think people are getting it from Amazon Canada. Anyhow, it’s otc in Canada. Why oh why can’t we be as sane as Canada about medicines? Why are USA citizens stuck with paying for four-page ads in magazines about the latest anti-depressent/libido booster/migraine suppresor that Big Pharma sells to the gullible to become even richer?)

PS–the elderly horses also get Previcox daily or every other day, depending on how they’re moving.

A more economical version of Lubrisyn is Flex Force Solution HA

I usually buy it from Jeffers.

My old guy is on Cetyl M, and has been for years. He did all sorts of fun stuff in our younger days, but developed arthritis and was retired around 2005. He eventually was pasture sound only at the walk, and would hold his leg up at a trot/canter (yet, he would still run around like a loon). We did Cosequin, injections (Adequan), and several other supplements I can’t even begin to remember.

I put him on Cetyl M in 2012. He was so sound that we did several intense trail rides - 10+ miles long, and he could jump very small jumps again. Completely sound w/t/c under saddle. Unfortunately, he had some windpuffs last year, so he is retired again. But he’s still sound!

Quite frankly, I’m not sure I’m impressed by any of these…tried to Cosequin asu and didn’t do anything. It depends on the nature and severity of the problem though. I stopped Smartpaks and put my guys on Actiflex as I’ve heard good things mainly on this site.

I’m not sure how much credence Lubrisyn should get when used faqs they indicate Legend is for IM injection…

You don’t have Arthroxigen CR listed, but I find it works better than the Cosequin ASU. I notice a difference if we run out. I’m never without it now!

I was really surprised with Cetyl M… At the time I worked at a store that had it as a “new” product, so got it for super cheap… Skeptically tried it for my guy, wasn’t expecting a difference… one week in he was a different horse. Unfortunately, I lost him about two weeks after starting it (lightning strike) so I can’t weigh in on how long the “change” lasted… but I know that the Cetyl M made a difference. We were partners for nearly a decade and he had never moved nicer… He had always struggled with “throughness” (old SI/poll issue) and it was like the damage from the injury had suddenly been lifted. I really was pleasantly surprised by the results.

If I ever had a reason to use it again I’d have no problem buying it.
