At least no one can say now “if you liked the son, breed to the sire.”
He died while covering his first mare of the season, which just goes to show yet again that, for stallions at least, sex can be deadly.
Very sad news. It is not uncommon for stallions to die from heart incidents.

And then we get the inevitable onslaught from overreactive Chromies lamenting that he was “bred to death” - even though it was his first mare of the season and he has never had a massive book. One sage opined that Lucky Pulpit died because he was heartbroken that his son would not be coming back to California to live with him and would be in Kentucky instead. Yes, they were serious.
This is such a shame. I handled him as a weanling once and enjoyed being able to point out my (very early) connection with Chrome.
