Lynn Mckenzie vs Marlene Eddleman

I’ve read a lot and I have been wanting a new barrel saddle. The two that I have found to seem to be the best are the Lynn Mckenzie and the Marlene Eddleman. I wanted to see what other people thought and what they use. I’m just trying to find the best for me and my horse.

Huh, thought I was in for a nice, juicy lawsuit story. Oh well.

Why did you make a new thread? You already have a thread asking about LM saddles.

Again, the saddle that is going to be “best” is the one that fits your horse. If you’ve never tried either brand on your horse, you have no idea if either will work. What has convinced you that these two brands are “the best”?

I personally do do not have any experience with Marlene’s saddle. I have heard that the newer ones, if you store it in excessive heat or cold, that it will actually damage the flex tree inside. Older models of this saddle are a little different (and better quality).

LM saddles are nice saddles. They tend to fit a horse that needs room in the shoulders because it has a decent amount of flare.

I’m sorry that I’m getting back to this so late, I’ve had a really rough time lately… I’ve spent the last month in the hospital. I just wanted to say that you really opened my eyes that I shouldn’t be looking at just two brands and be looking at more options.

I found a Charmayne James that I like and you seem like a very knowledgable person so I figured I’d ask your opinion on that particular brand… I just want to make sure that I’m getting what I pay for.

Oh my. Sorry about your hospital stay. Hope you are on the mend.

As far as the CJ saddles, I’ve personally never owned one. The CJ you are looking at, is it made by Reinsman or Double J? (She used to do her saddles with Double J but then “moved” to Reinsman.)

Are you looking at a new one or a used one?

From what I have been told, I think her saddles are a bit overpriced for what you get on the quality of leather. But with that said, if it fits your horse, it fits your horse!

Now the saddle pads that Charmayne sells, those are total garbage, IMO.

As of right now I’m just trying to find a good quality saddle that doesn’t pinch my horse the wrong way or make her sore, but I don’t have the money to buy a new one, as far as I’ve been looking, so I try my best to look at the used ones. Another reason that I’m trying to find a new saddle is because one of mine now is too big for me… I bought it without realizing that it was going to be as big as it is, it’s a 14.5 inch but it swallows me.

If you know of any place that I can be looking at for good used saddle please let me know…
