Machine washable western saddle pad

Anybody got one? I’m sick of huge, heavy pads that can’t be washed in a regular washing machine. I would love to find the western equivalent of my white quilted cotton dressage pads. Any suggestions?

I don’t know about quilted pads as Western pads aren’t built that way obviodly. But Toklat’s Coolbacks can come with a velcro front. You take the inserts out and wash the fleece in the machine.

Aces, it doesn’t have to be a quilted pad - I just want an to easy to wash equivalent. I will check out the Toklat pads. Thanks.

I’m like you, stb. I love being able to toss my English pads in the washing machine. The Toklat pads that Aces N Eights mentioned are the only western pads I know of that allow you to do that. But, I’ve never bought one because I’ve already got a giant mountain o’ saddle pads accumulated over the years.

You won’t find a Western saddle PAD that is thin enough or flexible enough to go into the washing machine. However, there are plenty of Western saddle BLANKETS that can go in the washing machine.

Toklat use to make their Classic III Dressage pad in custom sizes. I had one made that is 32 x 32. It goes in a washer.

Cashel Pad Pal may be just what you need.

Thanks for the link to the Cashel pad. I’ve never seen that before.

So if I put a cashel pad pal under a saddle blanket, it would all be washable.

And I forgot this until beau159 mentioned saddle blankets, but G. posted a link a while ago to instructions on how to fold a wool cavalry blanket into a saddle blanket. I thought at the time that it looked like something to try, and it would be washable.

Oh, wait, I actually have it bookmarked.

These felt PADS work great under a saddle blanket. I have several in the thinner size, and you can throw them in the wash.

Thanks for the ideas, y’all. I’m excited to have a few things to try.

I have a wool saddle blanket that I put under my pad for the sole purpose of keeping the pad clean. The wool wicks away moisture and breathes well and I wash it in cold and air dry. Comes out good as new.

When my daughter rode western we had a colored one for gaming and practice, and used a black one with a saddle blanket over it for her pleasure classes.

Was really hoping to find a machine washable pad on this thread. I guess someone needs to invent a pad with a zip off cover!

I just use a Back on Track under mine (have friends who just use a navaho type blanket under theirs). Easy to wash and the pad lasts a lot longer.

Toklat Matrix pads are machine washable, and really nice pads. That is what I had, and then I got a 5 Star as my graduation gift. I now use a BoT pad liner under my pad. I didn’t use it for a while, and I am really regretting it. My mare sheds white hair like crazy, and it’s now forever stuck to the pad.
