That’s how I’d pin it, but I think Renn and I are being very down on conservative hand gallops, the judges may not feel the same way :lol:

Yup, that’s how I’ve got it too :lol:

For what it’s worth, one trainer I rode with once asked me to show a hand gallop, then called me into the center and in a tone of doubt said, “would you really be brave enough to address a jump at that pace?” I asked her what she meant and if it was out of balance or control and she said “no, I just don’t usually see people want to be that bold.” Upon that instruction I turned around and addressed a jump at that pace. And that hand-gallop has won me several classes, although I will be first to say, not the Maclay Finals. So I am not talking out of the seat of my pants here, I really believe in showing a balanced working gait.

How exactly was Emil picked to judge the finals? I didn’t even know he 1. had a card and 2. actuall judged?

Skyler Fields is in there, too, that was a big move up.

Sophee didn’t do the same inside turn from the trot fence to 8c. Everyone else went inside the Clipmyhorse jump and she stayed around it.

I would weigh that a lot less than not even attempting a hand gallop (which is what Taylor’s last fence looked like to me). It will be interesting to see where the judges go.

Her horse is so big and lopey that it’s hard to get an aggressive hand gallop in my opinion

I think guest judges are allowed for this. They don’t have to have a judges card.

I would agree with this, except she had such a beautiful hand gallop in round 2. This just fell flat in comparison for me.
