Chronicle write up:
Right? Like how is Samantha Schaefer old enough to be a legit trainer now? I mean, sure I’ve aged a lot in the past however many years so math makes it a reasonable thing for her to be allowed to do…but I refuse to believe that she’s any older than 16 lol.
Phelps write up, with many quotes from the different participants:
The 11th and 12th place finishers are listed differently in this article than was presented on the livestream. Strange.
Hmm. Here are the official results on the show’s website.
"Since 1993, the Maclay National Championship has been one of the most sought-after distinctions in junior equitation sport. "
Huh? It’s been around much much longer than that.
Maybe they meant 1933?
I think that press release demonstrates the importance of an editorial team.
That would make more sense.
Somewhat incredibly, I believe the lady who won it in 1936 is still riding at the age of about 100. Good for her.
As do many of their press releases.
I generally do not read most of their press releases, and have unsubscribed from their email lists, for this reason.
Kudos to COTH for respectable journalism.
Yup. And being on their email list seemed to subscribe me to several other mailing lists in which I had zero interest. Not planning to buy $$$$ real estate in FL for one thing.
In Keri’s case, a medium that became a large at the WIHS ingate one fateful year - what a dust-up that was! I think they turned around and won a class in the large division the following year.
As for Sam, as I’ve said before, I remember being an adult and trying ponies at Stacey’s for a client, with tiny Sam in a car seat in the aisle.
Ah yes. That was the year of the many trotted lead changes and extra circles in the pony hunters at WIHS, right?
Also the year of the best costume class ever, with a giant horse next to a pony, and a “platinum” measurement card being waved around by a “trainer” in heels and a full length fur. I think the trainer in question was played by Rodney Jenkins, but I won’t quite swear to that part. Or now that I think about it, maybe it was Richard Slocum.
Any videos of the top rounds?
This is most of the test from the winner.
I want to watch the finals but the NHS website is down. Where else can I watch it?
You can watch on ClipMyHorse.tv, but you need a subscription. You can sign up for a free 30-day trial.
The Chronicle posted a nice article about Catalina Peralta: https://www.chronofhorse.com/article/peralta-takes-a-tumultuous-path-to-the-aspca-maclay-finals-reserve-championship?fbclid=IwAR0NKTtsLRIAqwLcACfOGjTcAzrXGUfjUFvO7ALsxu1mJkAhf02F-WeYwBY.
