I don’t understand why so many seem to be patting their horses for repeated refusals. I understand that getting angry is never the answer, but a pat is also not the answer for a horse who doesn’t want to play.
There are a lot of eyes on these kids today. A pat in the face of adversity is better sportsmanship than no response or sulking about it. The correction for that behavior doesn’t belong in the ring at Maclay Finals. Go back to the warmup and re-school, or fix the issue at home.

Re Skylar Wireman riding different horses: She’s from California and doesn’t bring her older eq horse with her. She catch rides whatever Heritage has for here, so sometimes she’s riding the horse for the first time the week of the show. She’s an amazing young rider
I guess I don’t see quietly walking out of the ring as a sulk. You’re always training the horse and a pat for disobedience is never the right response.
I feel like those kids are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. I was taught never to pat in that situation, but there also weren’t people watching a livestream who would lose their heads bemoaning the “lack of horsemanship” or the “sportsmanship that isn’t taught anymore” if a kid gave the horse a good sharp tap with the crop.
I would walk out of the ring and go back to the schooling ring to have a few positive jumps before calling it a day, but easy for me to say that when I’m not actually in that situation.

Am I the only one for whom the first post-break trips were repeatedly interrupted by CMH “short break” commercials – like, literally as the the trip was beginning or the kid was mid-course? I missed most of Catalina Peralta’s and one or two thereafter.

Have you tried using the stream that’s on nhs.org? I’ve been using that one the whole time with no issues.

No - I should do that, thanks! I tried the NHS site first thing this AM and it wouldn’t load so I haven’t been back since.
