Maclay finals

This is a genuinely laughable comparison.

But 1/2 not so new

For those interested in Robin Rost Brown’s take on equitation tests, she is one of the panelists for the USHJA webinar on the new equitation tests on Nov 28.

Luke’s first round was flawless … but a cross canter = loss if shape = major error - My brain hurts from the inconsistency!

I watched the press conference after the award ceremony. Luke’s trainer, Missy was so rude. I was embarrassed for them.
She kept texting on her phone, pretty much the entire time. She wasn’t listening or paying attention to the questions or answers and when she was asked a question, they had to get her attention, as she was on her phone. Then she had to ask them to repeat the question.
This press conference is for the kids and her lack of sportsmanship toward the riders, judges and other trainers was sad. I think it was her also, that brought the conference to a quick stop by saying, ā€˜is this almost over? Some kids have planes to catchā€.

I totally agree - her behavior was gross. I did think that it was someone else who mentioned having to catch planes, though I could be wrong.

I was thinking the same thing—however after she had to ask them to repeat one of the questions because she was on her phone, she said she was ā€œdealing with a problem,ā€ so who know, perhaps an issue back at the barn with one of the horses.

I didn’t buy that excuse - if it was really an emergency she should have excused herself. She looked like a complete ass up there.

I thought the comment about wrapping it up so people could catch their planes came from the moderator type person.

Ok that’s what I thought too. But still, if I was Luke’s mother I would have been on the phone with Andre or Stacia after that press conference. That kid deserved better.

I think this was Luke’s last year as a junior, so I don’t know where his parents think they would send him since he is done with the equitation.

To be fair, without knowing any of the details behind the scenes of their arrangement, it sounds like Missy matched him up with a horse that had no track record in the equitation, and between them, they managed to turn it into the horse that was first and second in the two biggest equitation finals in the country about six months later.

Personally, I would not be in a hurry to forget that accomplishment for my kid who was a working student in her program, and who also managed to win the Wilson Dennehy award for the most points accumulated between the three most prestigious finals of the year.

Without actually seeing her text messages, I have no way of knowing if it was a sudden vet emergency with one of the horses or whatever that cropped up right as they sat down for the press conference. Because… horses.

I will add that by that point, they had all been at the showgrounds for probably at least 18 hours, if not a lot more. Not to mention the sleep deprivation exercise involved in the week leading up to that event, which would probably rival the training for a Navy Seal. So I’m not inclined to be in a hurry to cast stones.

Kind of not my point, but ok. Like I said, if she had a true emergency, she should have done the respectful thing and excused herself. I don’t expect many people will agree with me because she’s Missy whatever her last name is and her kids win and that’s probably what they care about most. I don’t care about any of that so I am comfortable saying she looked like an ass.

That’s your opinion, and you’re certainly entitled to it.

I would still say we don’t know what was going on behind the scenes. Maybe she tried to step away, and the moderator insisted that she sit down next to Luke for the press conference regardless. Who knows?

Oh definitely, I don’t need anyone to agree with me. I just can’t stand making excuses for bad behavior, especially from someone who works so closely with kids. But like I said, the kids’ parents must be happy and that’s really all that matters.

I’m not making excuses.

I’m simply stating the fact that from the ten minutes we saw of the press conference, we could not know the full story of what was going on there.

Has anyone seen an article with info about Augusta’s horse? Just curious about him! Thanks!

There’s some info here.

There are also a few comments here, although they seem to be a little contradictory. :woman_shrugging:
