Maclay finals

I missed it - what happened to her?

Ah. I see that even though I planned my entire weekend around watching the Maclay, I may need to switch to coverage of the NY Marathon, which may actually have live streaming.

Is there any sort of contact information for CMH where we can all let them know that their live stream is utter crap?

Her horse looked like he got caught off guard by the short turn from 7 to 8 (the vertical with the green brush rails). He stuttered a step and then refused. She lost her balance but stayed on.

In my experience watching on line over the last 10 years or so, the Maclay live stream is cursed. Maybe it’s because it’s so close to Halloween but it absolutely has the most problems. That is why I loved the days when USEF did it and we had on demand so I could watch it a day later without all the problems!!!

I like Eve Westfall’s horse - Van Gogh

Eve Westfall had the best go I’ve seen so far. Not quite seamless, but a workmanlike job of answering all the questions.

You are right, but hasn’t it also been a non-USEF Network provider for most if not all of the last 10 years? I’m blanking on the name of the one they used to use.

Kate Mills is doing her best to rein in this big ol’ white-faced moose she’s on, who just wants to lope on down the lines and leave out a half a step or a full step, who can say, he’s just gonna poke his nose out like a big ol’ pony and roll on and do his thing.

Oh my goodness. Friends, we are at the Maclay Finals. Please do not look down at the outside shoulder to check your diagonal. Thank you.

My pet peeve…

Heartbreaker for James Leone - eliminated after refusals at the first fence.

Didn’t look like he got anywhere close to the fence, unfortunately. It’s the most normal-looking fence in the ring, so I wonder what his horse saw.

Seems like more of them than usual in this first group are coming in a bit wide-eyed.

Commentary is disappointing. Too much jabber about topics other than the trip. Ava is the only one interesting when they let her talk.

That absolutely stinks for him. Very bad luck.

For planning purposes, it took about an hour to get through the first 25 riders.

They also confirmed that there will be a drag break after each sixty rounds in the order.

That’s a common theme with the commentary at all of these finals unfortunately. The actual round commentary for the rider in the ring tends to be an afterthought.

Pet peeve of mine too.

Has anyone seen a start list that includes the names of the horses? And also the trainers?

I think I’d have Siena MacDonald on my standby. She had to get scrappy to get it done, so it’ll depend what the judges saw, but she did get it done.

The stream seems to be more stable now…haven’t had to refresh in a while.

As a broadcast media professional, I’m unimpressed with this feed. They don’t even appear to have white balanced the cameras before starting this. Or color balanced the cameras–it’s all too yellow.

It’s interesting that you mention that. That never would have crossed my mind, but now that you say it, I can’t un-see it.
