Magazine Ideas

I have a little friend, ten years old, loves horses, rides a little in my dressage saddle. I’d like to get her a magazine subscription. Something that comes in the mail. Ideas? Horse and Rider?

Young Rider Magazine.

Is Practical Horseman still around? I enjoyed my subscription to that magazine and it’s not targeted at high-level riders.

Tarlo, I know you mean a Horsey publication, and you’ll laugh; go ahead, but a 10yo Kid?
I’d suggest MAD Magazine. I have a subscription, and it’s always entertaining; the one thing that gets read cover-to-cover every issue. It will present enough challenge that it should keep The Kid engrossed, and silly as it sounds, that will really help build reading and thinking skills.
Well, plus it’s somewhat of a juvenile status symbol, or at least it used to be.
And if you’re lucky, maybe she’ll share it with you :-).
Horsey Mags? I read Equus regularly for awhile. I thought it was a pretty good rag, but probably not very interesting to a youngster.

Second Young Rider if its still around.
I was obsessed and so excited everytime a YR magazine came to my mailbox as a kid.

There is also Blaze magazine!

You could consider buying her an age-oriented horse book every month. If you order through Amazon, you could even have a new book delivered to her monthly just like a magazine would be.

Thanks all, and @George_T_Mule, I appreciate that thought, but definitely looking for horse ideas.

I’m going to have to remember that! I’ve got a couple littles that are horsey and this would be a great gift for them.

As someone who worked on and wrote for Young Rider magazine almost since its inception, I’d also recommend YR magazine. (I retired from it a couple years ago). Like other print mags, it has struggled over the last few years to survive, and gone through some changes. But it’s still a great option for kids.
