Magic Cushion burn? Or???

So, I packed my horse’s feet with Magic Cushion after showing this past Sunday like I always have: MC + diaper + vetrap bootie (horse is barefoot). Tues I went out to the barn (barn is closed Mondays) and the back of his heels and pastern were gunky, crusty and the skin was inflamed & split. It was obviously rather sore. My trainer and I were a bit puzzled, but thought maybe the MC burned him or the bootie chafed, although the soft part of the diaper would have been against this area of skin and I have used MC on him before with no such reaction. I have been washing them each day to keep clean and applying antibiotic ointment + cortisone cream and they are TONS better. Just curious if anyone else has had a similar reaction or ideas? Thanks!

I have seen it with icthamol, which I think is a main ingredient in MC.

I use Magic Cushion often and have never seen a reaction. Glad to hear he’s healing quickly at least.

My vet recommends coating the heels in vaseline before applying Magic Cushion because it can cause irritation to the heels.

Good to know, Jawa! I will definitely keep that in mind, if I even use it on him again.

BTW, folks, it is looking much much better & almost healed
