Making a non-soundless ear bonnet soundless?

I searched for any ideas but came up with nothing other than ear plugs - but is there some sort of ear bonnet insert that can make non soundless ones, soundless?

Many manufacturers make them.Google is your friend. Here is one from Smartpak. https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/smartpak-deluxe-silent-ear-bonnet-19651?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=nb_shopping_seasonal-tbl_3p&utm_campaign=&utm_term=2109827829&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvOz22-T46wIVdh-tBh3zUwAwEAQYAyABEgJS6_D_BwE

You could line the ears with neoprene but the hassle wouldn’t be worth it when you could buy the ones already made to be soundproof

As stated above there are lots of ready-made options with soundproof ears… but I’m guessing maybe you want to use a (custom?) bonnet you already have.

I have seen a set of just neoprene ears, meant to be put on under the bonnet. I didn’t actually use them, so can’t vouch for how simple or effective they are. Google isn’t bringing an example up for me, so I’m guessing maybe they were custom. You could easily contact one of the custom bonnet makers (especially if they made your bonnet, because then sizing should match) to see if they would sell you just ears. Or buy a cheaper soundproof bonnet and cut off the ears.

I’ve also seen someone layer the soundproof bonnet under the pretty one, but honestly, it seemed a bit clunky. Maybe if you were to find the thinnest smallest soundproof one you can get your hands on, it would look smoother.

Correct, wanting to use custom bonnets we already have.

Talisman bonnets sells soundless ear inserts!

Who makes them? EquStar bonnets now makes the inserts & you can purchase them separately. I’m sure they’d fit in whichever brand you already own, though.

EquStar bonnets and Talisman don’t seem to sell ear liners anymore. I’ve been googling like a madperson and can’t find a place that has them. Any other suggestions?

Did you try emailing them (or other custom bonnet makers) directly to ask? It may not be something they “stock” or list, but would be willing to sell you direct. After all, if they handmake soundproof bonnets, it’s essentially a piece of them, so they would have the materials!

I reached out but no reply (yet?)

ETA: Talisman does sell them - $40/pr. plus shipping

EagainTA: Equstar does too - $50/pr. plus $10 to ship

And if anyone wants more info. QHP makes a set for Eur 5.95 (free shipping to US if you buy items from some other brands, like Kentucky)

Are these QHP liners USDF legal?

Yes, I believe so.

I know this is a really old thread but it was bumped up by someone else so I’ll throw my 2 cents in.

I DIY’ed mine. Got some neoprene (Joann Fabric sells it in three different thicknesses), traced the ear shape from the existing bonnet with chalk onto neoprene, sewed around the curved edge and voila! It works great and I have plenty from 1/4 yard to make a ton of pairs.

Before people started making soundproof bonnets we used to turn them inside out and put duct tape on the ears to muffle sound.

Learnt this trick from Leslie Howard’s crew, some would wear a normal bonnet and then the duct taped one over top.

We also took a pair of the ear portion off a bonnet and duct taped them and just used it as an insert to another pair.

Lots of options.
