The man would probably ride better (and actually train the horse) if he wasn’t riding with his stirrups where he can barley reach them with his toes.
Does he know that heterogeneous for silver dapple can cause congenital.deafness?
heterogeneous or homogeneous?
Actually it’s an eye disorder. Multiple congenital ocular anomalies (MCOA). It tends to be milder in heterozygous horses with silver (one copy), tends to be worse in homozygous (two copies). It is also more prevalent in Rocky Mountain Horses.
You’d think with all the lofty equine DNA research Mr. Pegasus has done, that he’d know that. But apparently not.
Haha I meant homozygous and I also confused blind and deaf.
Ok, I have to show y’all this photo, taken today, of me riding a very very wide 14 hand coloured cob, Joey. The stirrups could not go any shorter! His owner and regular rider is about 6’1" with long legs.
Where are you riding?
Looks like you’re having a good ride. Happy for you!
I’m in Wales, at friends’ house - just this afternoon until tomorrow morning. Wrapping up a 2 1/2 week vacation in the UK.
They have 2 mules and 3 horses, but Joey’s the only one who’s rideable.
Joey’s butt is definitely bigger than mine!
He’s a very typical random cob - completely unphased by almost anything, a bit bargey… the worst thing he will do is drag you to grass, but he knows he won’t get cookies if he does that. He’s bolted exactly once in 5 years… went 4 steps and then decided it was too much effort!
bargey
a bit bargey
This sounds like a perfect description … I’m not sure of what, though. Could you translate ‘bargey’ into Simplified American English?
I know a draft-cross who, while riding, has a tendency to get up in his feelings, and announce through body language “You don’t appreciate me enough? Fine, I’m leaving! Going back to the hay and my horse friends! Oh you don’t want me to leave? How much do you not want me to leave? Fine, guess I’ll stay – for now!!!”
Is that ‘bargey’? I’m adopting that word if it is.
Bargey means a horse that barges (pushes) into your space. They can be very polite about it… but it is still a wee bit rude.
This is actually a very well-trained horse playing the role of a very bargey horse…
Got it! That’s not quite what the horse I know is doing.
That is a cute trailer loading tutorial!
Bargey, marginally better than bolshi, another one of my favorite UK/Irish horse behavior adjectives.
That is great I especially liked how he would shake his leg as if he was putting tremendous effort into getting the horse to move.
Totally off topic but I noticed the white hair at the withers and it reminded me of a mare that developed the same from bad blanket fit.
